nerdasaurus
What are some songs that you all listen to to reinvigorate yourself after having left Christianity? Feel free to add to the list! Here are some songs I love: 1. "Jumper" by Third Eye Blind 2. "Superwoman" by Alicia Keys (especially for us ladies!) 3. "Shake It Out" by Florence & The Machine 4. "Meet Virginia" by Train 5. "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)" by Kelly Clarkson 6. "Where Is My Mind?" by the Pixies 7. "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Somebody to Love," both by Queen 8. "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," both by Green Day 9. "Better Than Me" by Hinder" 10. "Call Your Girlfriend" by Robyn 11. "Lose Yourself" by Eminem 12. "The Kill" by 30 Seconds to Mars 13. "Second Chance" by Shinedown 14. "Since You've Been Gone" by Kelly Clarkson (I had to add this to the list. Come on, you know you all love it!) A lot of these songs are "breakup" songs in one way or another. If you listen closely to the lyrics, it really does mirror what our experience has been, especially in regards to the negative reactions we [for the most part] have encountered from our peers or families. Any other additions? I'm curious to see what you'll add to the list!

lunaticheathen
"Judith" and "Rose" by A Perfect Circle. Hell, the whole album "Mer de Noms" was my deconversion album. I can't hear any of it now without thinking about that time of my life, at least a little. It's a great middle finger to my old christian school too, since I listened to it inside of that place. Later, I'd add "Eulogy" by Tool. "Church of Madness", by Inkubus Sukkubus. "God", "Crucify", and "Precious Things" by Tori Amos. I'm sure I'm forgetting some, but those are the top ones that haven't been named yet. (btw tabs, <3 Voltaire!) ETA: AGH! Knew I'd forget one... "Head Like a Hole", Nine Inch Nails. GREAT general "fuck you" song, for realsies. ANOTHER.... "Killing in the Name" by Rage Against The Machine. It's a "punch you in the FAAAAACCCCEEEE!" song. And ends in "FUCK YOU I WON'T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME!!!" RAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!

Later, I'd add "Eulogy" by Tool. I just bought Mer de Noms, mostly for the song Judith (after the 20th time I felt like I just HAD to listen to that song on youtube, the album went on my shopping list). Another great anti-christian rage album is Disturbed's Believe, particular Prayer and Believe. Since my deconversion process involved me learning to stand up for myself in interpersonal relationships as well as in religious beliefs (I had a lot of "believe because we told you so and you're a horrible person if you don't obey" growing up), I'll also throw in some Linkin Park. The first song of their I ever heard was "Crawling", while still a fundy, and it touched on all sorts of emotions that I'd been suppressing. The whole Hybrid Theory album was a big thing for me, but I'll also mention the song "A Place for my Head". That song helped me start to understand that I don't have to put up with demanding, abusive attitudes from other people or from any god.
Suzy
Nine Inch Nails: Heresy He sewed his eyes shut because he is afraid to see He tries to tell me what I put inside of me He’s got the answers to ease my curiosity He dreamed up a God and called it christianity Your God is dead and no one cares If there is a hell I will see you there He flexed his muscles to keep his flock of sheep in line He made a virus that would kill off all the swine His perfect kingdom of killing, suffering and pain Demands devotion atrocities done in his name Your God is dead and no one cares Drowning in his own hypocrisy And if there is a hell I will see you there Burning with your God in humility Will you die for this? Suzy
R.E.M.: Losing my religion (And before somebody jumps in to tell me: I know it means "Losing my temper" in the Southern Region of the US where REM came from, however I feel the title is deliberately ambiguous, especially considering the video. And art is in the eyes of the beholder and to me the lyrics make lots of sense in the religious sense.)

Zephie
Honestly, I don't have specific songs so much as specific bands like The Agonist, Arch Enemy, Nightwish, Within Temptation, etc. It's like this whole world has opened up. Also "Ignorance" by Paramore is amazing and I have more than once driven down the road singing that song at the top of my lungs.

dyanaprajna0
I listen to mostly heavy metal, so if you don't like really loud music with screechy or growling vocals, then there probably wont be much on this list you like. But for those who, like me, really like this stuff, here's a list of some of my favorite 'coping' songs: First on the list is Metallica's Black Album. That's the first non-christian/country album I bought when I first started doubting, so every song on that CD reminds me of that time period. But there are a few songs that I want to point out: -Sad But True -Holier Than Thou -The God That Failed -The Unforgiven (still my favorite song of all time, and my life's theme song) Now for the rest of the list: -anything Slayer -anything Deicide -A Perfect Circle: Judith -Drowning Pool: Sinner -Marilyn Manson: The Beautiful People -Rage Against the Machine: Killing In The Name Of -R.E.M.: Losing My Religion (I know, I know ) -Metallica: Dyer's Eve, Fade to Black, Welcome Home (Sanitarium) -Iron Maiden: Children of the Damned, Hallowed Be Thy Name -Iced Earth: My Own Savior -Dissection: Where Dead Angels Lie -Vital Remains: Dechristianize That's a good partial list, but I listen to so much Death and Black metal, that this list could go on for a while, so I'll leave it at this, for now, anyway.
mcdaddy
Do you think this one's about deconversion? it would seem so from the lyrics but apparently everyone thinks its about the band and how they almost split up or some shit. EDIT: oops i meant to quote. I mean "Ignorance" by Paramore. and it was directed towards Zephie.

Voice
Save Yourself, Stabbing Westward I know your life is empty And you hate to face this world alone So you're searching for an angel Someone who can make you whole I can not save you I can't even save myself So just save yourself I know that you've been damaged Your soul has suffered such abuse But I am not your savior I am just as fucked as you I am just as fucked as you I can not save you I can't even save myself So just save yourself Please don't take pity on me Please don't take pity on me Please don't take pity on me Please don't take pity on me My life has been a nightmare My soul is fractured to the bone And if I must be lonely, I think I'd rather be alone I think I'd rather be alone You can not save me You can't even save yourself I can not save you I can't even save myself Save yourself So just save yourself
