This news is a bit old, but I just came across it and couldn't remember this being posted before.

Jeanne Assam Says She Was Asked To Leave New Life Church After Coming Out

In December, 2009, a 24-year-old gunman named Matthew Murray opened fire on New Life's Colorado Springs facility, shooting four people and killing two. Jeanne Assam, then a 42-year-old volunteer security guard and ex-Minneapolis police officer, shot the gunman--who fatally shot himself soon afterward--as he entered the church.

At the time, Assam--who said her strong faith was responsible for her swift and decisive action--was hailed as a hero.

However, she says the warm feelings from New Life subsided after she told them that she was gay.

Go figure. "Thanks for saving out lives! Oh, you're gay? Please get lost."

I remember the story about her stopping the rampage. She was praised by the right wing media all over, but I never knew about her getting the boot for coming out. If they didn't need her they should have just prayed that their god stop the gunman.

In the eyes of a church, the lunatic gunman was worth forgiveness but not a homosexual? That is typical behavior for Christians. They would rather all be shot to death by a heterosexual than have their lives saved by a homosexual. What a bunch of tards!

Besides, Christians have the view that only heterosexuals have True Love™ and are entitled to forgiveness, whereas homosexuals are an abomination to god. If the church recognized the self-sacrifice and love of a homosexual that saved them, it would totally negate their hatred of gays and lesbians because it would prove abominations are capable of love and self-sacrifice. Sounds weird but that's the mentality of most Christi-tards.

it should be mentioned that the article states that the church flatly denies that she was told to leave because of her sexuality, and also that she was under investigation by internal affairs in the police and accused of lying during that investigation. just sayin her story might be a crock.
