So, I am a lover of documentaries. A good documentary can keep me interested for a couple of well spent hours. I love -all- documentaries. History docs, health docs, global issues docs, political docs, nature docs, etc. etc.

Soooo, what documentaries have YOU all seen and loved? I'd love to know! And maybe I'll get around to watching them -all-! yellow.gif

Awesome topic: Here's what I can think of right now: Overnight, My kid could paint that, Exit through the gift shop, Dear Zachary: A Letter to a son about his father (be prepared to cry and hate humanity ... still a good doc though)

This one is quite horrifying: The Perfect Vagina, about the pressure women feel for their vaginas to be physically perfect, and the operation they'll go through in order to do so.

Found here at: http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/perfect-vagina/

My favorite is American Movie. Its about an eccentric dude trying to make a no-budget film.

The funniest part in this movie is when he has to clean the bathroom. "I'm a 35 year old man, and here I am cleaning up someone else's shit''

Oh, yeah, that reminds me of Project Green Light. That series is fun to watch, not really my favorite, but enjoyable.

I liked Religulous, but Wild China and Nova are my favorite educational shows. Empires is another good one.

My husband jokes about my love of "you poor sorry bastards" type shows like that one about the Earth's temperature rising 5 degrees or "After People," but I'm hooked. If it's got asteroids, volcanoes, global warming, or tectonic shift as a subject, I've probably got it in my Netflix queue.

The Beer Hunter by Michael Jackson (the fat dead British beer expert, not the skinny dead American pop star).

This miniseries, hefty as an imperial stout, takes you around the world to hidden beery heavens.

For something completely different, the docu that most captivated my wife and me recently ran over here no the French/German culture channel "Arte". Sadly I doubt that it will be released in English (or on any BluRay/DVD/whatever in fact) anytime soon.

I don't know about you but here in goo' ol' Germany - yup the country that's currently destroying its own best customers by that mad austerity programme for all of Europe - we get bombarded by docu/mockumentaries about WW2 24/7/365... but hardly anyone considers the first world war that laid so much of the foundation that WW2 was then built on. Alas, recently that impressive docu "Gewaltfrieden" (my translation: Forced peace) ran here. It takes a very close look on what happened in Germany during the last days of WW1 and then in the months until the Weimar republic was founded, showing how the far-right Kaiser fans orchestrated the rise of a leftist government so that the people would blame the imminent chaos on them and not on the Kaiser and his generals (who in due time would fully support a certain Austrian immigrant by the name of...oh well). Can't help myself... sounds like your Republicans are at least trying to do the very same thing with your Democrats right now.

Not saying that the Dems would make it all sooo much better than the Reps, just referring to the generic principle.

Anyhow, if (big if, probably) you ever stumble over this thing anywhere, don't miss it.

*off soapbox*

And now back to the usual program. ;)

I've watched few documentaries, so I don't have much to offer.

But I was waiting to see if anyone would mention "For the Bible Tells Me So", that documentary about Christians who have gay kids, and how they dealt with it (no, they don't lose their faith, but they do creatively reinterpret the Bible to not be so hateful towards gays). I liked that documentary, though as one review put it, "nonbelievers will be left wondering why what the tome says even matters." Indeed.

Oh! I saw that too, Yalta. It was good. Also "Jesus Camp," which should come with a warning for ex-believers--it's brutally frank.

I wish I could remember the title of one that I saw. It was about an isolated person who drew and painted an enormous amount of extremely interesting artwork. It was only found after the person's death. Darn, wish I weren't so old and still had half a memory.
