MrsRoper
Yes! His autobiography about his childhood is fantastic. I like him a lot.

Llwellyn
I've exchanged some emails with him -- he's a pretty sensible dude with a lot of really interesting things to say. My girlfriend's mother reads his blog religiously. I have about 6 books by him, including the "Calvin Becker Trilogy" beginning with Portofino. They are semi-autobiographical fiction, and they are pee-in-the-pants funny. Schaeffer is Eastern Orthodox now and no longer Presbyterian. He started out by being pretty conventionally Eastern Orthodox, but now I think he is pretty much an atheist/agnostic that is allowed by some parish priest to make a home in an Orthodox congregation. ExCrusader
Really like his un-censored take on the republican religious nutjobs. Just listened to a talk of his in Omaha (streamed live). He still hangs on to some wishy washy christian things, but seems to be leaning more and more toward agnosticism.
MrsRoper
but now I think he is pretty much an atheist/agnostic that is allowed by some parish priest to make a home in an Orthodox congregation. I have his book Patience with God. It basically rags on what he thinks is wrong with the new athiests and the religious right while trying to defend some sort of moderate Christian middle ground. I didn't really like it as much as his other work. The subtitle is: faith for people who don't like religion or atheism. I was kinda hoping something in his argument would move me, but it really left me cold. The more I study atheism, the more I like it. The only thing I don't like about it is that the term "atheist" has such bad PR, so you don't want to tell anyone you are one for fear they will look at you like horns are going to grow out of your head. I don't think moderate "faith" is the alternative to atheism or religion, and I don't think there is anything wrong with picking a side. That being said, I have a ton of respect for his ideas & his gift as a writer. He was an insider with his dad to when the religious right got really going in the 80s, and that first hand experience is fantastic.
ExCrusader
I have his book Patience with God. I was kinda hoping something in his argument would move me, but it really left me cold. I totally agree. I pretty much hated "Patience with God" because it didn't say anything useful. I get the feeling, though, that Frank is mellowing on his stance against "the atheists." In his recent speaking he speaks pretty fondly of Hitchens and isn't using the same language he did in that book. I think he's getting closer to all-out unbelief. It's just taking some time!
