"don't Tread On Me' Banner

Recommended Posts

Some new neighbors moved in several houses away from us last Fall, seem like nice folks, youngish couple with two little kids and seem nice upper middle class, like all the rest of us.

Since Monday they have been flying a big yellow banner with then 'Dont Tread on Me' logo. It's the same one you see at teabagger rallies, usually carried by morons with an AK47 in the other hand. I know I am stereotyping; but their flying this thing just bugs me, it's like they are putting a thumb in the eye of anyone who sees it. Maybe they assume we all agree or maybe it has some other meaning. I am thinking of asking them although I have not spoken to them as yet and don't want that to be our first contact. Maybe I need to mind my own business. Makes me wonder if this is a guy with guns buried in the yard, etc. Any opinions?

Knowing that type, they can't wait to talk about how the gubmint jackboots are steppin' all over thems freedoms.

So trust me, you won't have to broach the subject.

You are probably correct. Good luck getting away from him, if you ever find yourself in the situation of talking to him.

I used to like that flag.

Me too. It used to stand for independence. Now it stands for idiots.

My wifes cousin flies it and yes, he has guns galore, Obama is not the President, the Socialists are taking over but, "Hey, where's my unemployment and disability checks?"

Does the banner violate any HOA regulations?

(I am referring to size and manner of display -- not content.)

In today's context, that flag means that they probably listen to talk radio and takes them seriously. And they probably own a gun or three. I wouldn't try to infer any more than that from it.

My inlaws have a 'don't tread on me' bumper sticker. I think they're both gullible when it comes to politics- but that doesn't change the fact that they're awesome people.

the Socialists are taking over but,

Off topic, but this came to mind. I am floored by the conservatives who for decades past, have ranted about the Commies. Now they don't say shit while they hand the USA over to the Chinese Communists! Hypocrites! As long as they get their $,$$$,$$$ they'll sell the rest of us out!

Check their car; does it have more than two political bumper stickers? Those people are usually delusional and may display violent tendencies against those with whom they disagree.

This paper pretty well sums up the t-baggers http://psychoanalystsopposewar.org/resources_files/ConsevatismAsMotivatedSocialCognition.pdf

"Variables significantly associated with conservatism, we now know, include fear and aggression, dogmatism and intolerance of ambiguity, uncertainty avoidance, need for cognitive closure, personal need for structure, terror management, group-based dominance, and system justification."

Reminds me of a quote from a movie, "You ain't from 'round here, is ya boy?" Says the man in the white pointy hat with shotgun in hand.

Same here. It looks cool, has cool history, but its been hijacked completely by the tea party. That must be how Buddhists and Jainists felt when the Nazi's jacked their swastika.

You never know who the psycho in the neighborhood is...until the cops are there arresting them. :-)

Yeah, read your Constitution and get your own flag if his offends you so damn much.

What is it with you thin skinned types?

I though you were all about T*O*L*E*R*A*N*C*E.

I guess, that is, until they don't agree with YOU. Typical.

I am 65 and fairly familiar with the constitution, thank you.

Maybe if so many on your side of the spectrum weren't saying and doing things to threaten others with loose talk about guns I wouldn't be concerned. I could care less what this guy believes but the fact he chooses to put this out in everyone's face concerns me, not because I don't tolerate dissent but because it speaks to an attitude I don't enjoy living so near to.

Yep....and what is funny....these are the same folks who claim to believe in freedom of speech, ....until it is something they disagree with.....Ahhh ...my....the sweet smell of hypocricy.

Please show me where anything I said advocates censoring this guy's freedom of speech. He has a perfect right to be as obnoxous as he wants to, it's his house and his property. My issue was with the propriety of what he is doing. You don't exactly make friends in a new area by something like this. My main concern is whether he may be stockpiling guns or ammo in our neighborhood. Sorry if my concerns are incomprehensible to some of you but I have them.

I do get a kick out of the fact that our ranks on this board can include different points of the political spectrum. All the fundies I know think we're all left wing socialists!.

Most people, including generally tolerant people are intolerant of intolerance. Maybe you don't realize it, but your post just drips with intolerance for views not your own.

I guess some people equate criticizing something with advocating its elimination. Oh well, I guess that's "easier than thinking".

Freedom of speech goes both ways: the moron has a right to fly his tea party flag, and his neighbor has a right to complain.

Then call a moving company.

And I'll thank you not to assume which "SIDE" I am on! You don't know shit about me, or that neighbor of yours, for that matter, you said it yourself, so who the hell are you to judge EITHER OF US?

Yeah....call a moving company and buy some better glasses for that Constitution you claim to understand.
