jackbauer
I admit, I get pissed off and annoyed a lot of things Christians say, but few things rile me up as much as this. First of all, it's extremely arrogant to assume that you know why people became unbelievers. A lot can impact a persons unbelief, it's not all rebellion. More importantly, even if the reason was not wanting to be held accountable, is that really such a bad thing? Even with Jesus dieing for your sins, there's a lot of guilt for the slightest of offenses, even thought crimes. You're made to feel that every decision you make could effect your eternal destiny. Everything is a spiritual battle against good and evil. They say every thought word and dead you'll have to give account for. That is a scary and nervewracking thought!!!! I don't think it's a healthy way to live at all, no matter which way you want to spin it. Let alone believing that most people on earth will end up in hell after they die. So justifiably, I get pissed off when arrogant Christians say stuff like this. To say I don't want to "answer to god" is belitting the terror and OCD these beliefs can cause. It's like telling a kid with abusive parents that he runs away from them because he doesn't want to "answer" to them.
mymistake
Imagine you are having a conversation in person with a Christian. You: "Well I just don't believe that anymore." Christian: "You just don't want to answer to God!" (You turn to face empty space and pause. Then you turn back to the Christian. You: "He asked you a question. Why are you ignoring him?" Christian: "What?" You: "Harvey asked you a question. Are you just going to ignore him?" (You turn to the empty space again) You: "I don't know. I think it was rude too." Christian: "What are you doing?" (Turning back to the Christian) You: Harvey was just wondering why you are ignoring him Christian: "Who's Harvey?" (You point at the empty space) You: "The six foot tall rabbit. His name is Harvey. I'm sorry, I assumed you had already met" Then you can proceed to introduce the empty space to the Christian and vice versa. If they are going to demand that you listen to their invisible friend maybe you should do the same.
Zephie
Harvey!! Seriously, that conversation could be edited to include a conversation. People "hear" god tell them stuff all the time and none of it matches up. Anyway, why would you want to answer to a god who doesn't exist. Even if gods existed there would be some kind of choice involved I would think.

MrsRoper
You don't want to answer to god? How about: Well, I don't want to answer to your personal God. Just like you don't want to answer to Allah.

midniterider
Preface all your replies with "God said..." "God said you're an asshole." "God told me not to talk to idiotic xians" "God gave me a word. He said something bad is going to happen to you soon." "God told me he is taking you to heaven this year." "God told me the little voice in your heart isnt him so it must be Satan." "God told me he is disppointed in you." "God told me your faith is a sham." "God told me you need to pray much more often." "God gave me a word. He said that Facebook has become your God. He is angry about that." Use these and make up your own. It can be fun! The shaming ones can be really good if the tard you are dealing with is especially gullible. "God has taken me (an apostate) into his inner court...while he is verrrrrry disappointed in you..." bahahahaha. "God told me you need to get your own affairs in order before evangelizing me!" Use a finger and point "God convicts you of selfish pride and demands penitence!"
Kurari
What kind of stupid shit is that? "You just don't want to answer to God!" Uh, no? Why the fuck would I? How do you answer to an insane, retarded, crazy, monomaniacal thing that can't even figure out it's own creation. This is like trying to answer to a psychopathic schizophrenic with retardation. You say apple, it says paisley sheep. Frankly, I figured BEFORE I left Christianity that I was still fucked.
FeelHappy
There are many of us who wanted to spend our whole lives serving god before they life. Answering to god has nothing to do with realizing that he doesn't exist (at least in the biblical form, I have no idea of there is a deist god but that doesn't matter, it wouldn't care anyways).
Zephie
"You just don't want to answer to God." Nope I don't and neither do you. You take what you want from "His Word" and apply it as you see fit. Get off your high horse you hypocritical bastard. Pride comes before the fall....pretty soon you'll be in my shoes. Then end it with, "You just got served." Sorry you have to hear all that bullshit from other people.
Thought2Much
I wouldn't want to answer to Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao Tse Tung, or Ghengis Khan either. So? Of course, the big difference is that all of these people actually existed. God has yet to prove that he exists to show that there is any point in "answering" to him.
stryper
So "you just don't want to answer to god..." implies that there is an option to not. Therefore, it would seem you have the option to avoid all the judgement shit by not believing. Just stop Believin

Zaphod
I have managed to get them going with this little ditty of mine: God: Take my son as savior and accept him and follow him and you will live for eternity and rule with me in heaven. Mafia Don: Take this offer you can't refuse and you will never want for money, nobody will give you a hard time and you will never hurt for money, all you have to do is do a little business for us once in awhile. God: Reject my son and you go to Hell. Mafia Don: Reject this offer and you end up in the bottom of the river in concrete shoes. Which one is extortion? Just bring that up to any smart-assed Christian and then ask them if extortion is wrong. Watch them try to dance around the issue and then tell them to come up with a better side step than that and then walk away. Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar was famous for giving government officials their choice of "plata o plomo," silver or lead.

Now there's a sweet, comforting thought about the "Prince of Peace" and "god is love" message. I'd rather think that, rather than force us to answer to him, such a god should answer to us: the people he's condemning to eternal hellfire for doubting a deity that deliberately hides from us, distorts his message, and refuses to show himself--not to mention creating a moral system that even involves hurting people eternally. I'm really noticing how when it all comes down to brass tacks, when all the rest of the arguments fail, when all the apologetics they can muster just don't persuade, Christians abandon all that cutesy-poo love shit and go straight to the violence and threats. That's where we find the real message; watch for the moment in a "witnessing" session when the Christian must go for his trump card and reveal the real reason to join his faith. It really is all about hell. If it weren't for hell, Christians wouldn't have a leg to stand on. -There'd be less heartbreak when one comes out as an atheist. -Christians wouldn't need to be as aggressive with their beliefs. -There'd be less condemning of behaviors that are considered "sins". -Politicians like Rick Santorum wouldn't be able to use scare tactics. -There'd be more hope and less hate within Christianity. Yet because of God's "justice", Christians are creating hell on earth for so many people. It makes me absolutely sick when anyone considers this "just".
