riddick
Hi everyone, After reading some peoples stories here i thought i'd share mine, but i think l got off very easy. I was brought up in a Catholic household, we never really went to church, but did all the religious holidays. I always questioned everything, had a very scientific mind, it’s funny now that I had became a Christian, cause the Bible and Christianity was pretty much the opposite to what I believed. I believed and believe now that no one should ever force his or her beliefs onto anyone, freedom of speech, against racism/sexism etc etc. But somehow I found myself hanging out with the wrong people, I was around 22 – 23 years old, just a confused boy, looking for something, and Christianity was forced upon me, when I think all l wanted was a chicken sandwich. Anyway I went to church every Sunday, bible studies, etc etc, but it never ever felt right, there was something always at the back of my mind saying “this is wrong”, but I ignored it and was told it was the devil trying to get between me and god. I read the Bible like every good Christian and believed every ridiculous story in there, even though I knew it my heart that these story’s were bullshit. Anyway, time went on, about 10 years and I couldn’t find answers, no one in my church could help me, trust in God isn’t an answer. So I went searching for them, I did a lot of reading, not just from the religious view, some Richard Dawkins, another lady which name I can’t remember at this time, many websites, talking to people, and realized, that Christianity was so wrong, one of the main reasons was, if I didn’t love god, l would go to hell, now can anyone tell me, is that love?? Or an ultimatum??? And another argument that I got was, what if I was wrong?? And really if you have read the Bible and read the stories in there, God is a very evil character, if God was a human and I met him, would i be friends with him??? The things he let happen, the evils he condoned. I’m more than happy to be wrong. But you know, it’s the same ol’ story, I lost most of my Christian friends, but thankfully my old pre-christian friends are a lot more forgiving than them, be more like Jesus, my f^&king ass. But anyway that’s my story, I’m very happy being an Atheist, and I don’t condone anyone for being Christian or any other Religion, if it makes you happy, and you are not hurting anyone else. Anyway, I’m looking forward to have some civil discussion with everyone here. Riddick.
Overcame Faith
Hi, riddick, welcome to ExC. I like the way you thought through everything and kept searching for the truth despite what those in your church told you. This is funny, I like your sense of humor: But somehow I found myself hanging out with the wrong people, I was around 22 – 23 years old, just a confused boy, looking for something, and Christianity was forced upon me, when I think all l wanted was a chicken sandwich. TotalWreck
Welcome to the site Riddick! It's always so nice to read when one person escapes from the nonsense that is Christianity. I know exactly how you feel - to try to force yourself to believe when in the back of your mind you know things don't make sense. It's an awful feeling. I'm sure you realize how nice it is to have that weight off your shoulders now.

♦ ficino ♦
Welcome, Riddick! It's sad that you lost Christian friends, but not surprising, since they were ideological friendships. I'm glad that your true friends are still there for you!
