Is The Bible Really The Word Of God?

Mankind has always sought God........some proof, some indication, some hope, that God is.... or might be somewhere. Many different people on the earth... many gods.......hence, all the holy religions and scriptures from around the world. This 'lecture' by Emmett F. Fields is one of the best descriptions of how God was born.... that i have ever read. He makes so many wonderful points. You will want to put this one in your 'favorites'. I pass on this link for anyone who needs further convincing, of the way the holy scriptures and religions started.

Quote from lecture: ''Is the Christian Bible "The inspired word of God"? We must examine the Christian Bible, not because it is greatly different from other religious books, of other nations and of other Gods, but because it is the one book that is made to dominate our society by indoctrination. We are taught to believe it in childhood, and forbidden to question it in adulthood. It endangers our modern world, it prevents intellectual maturity and limits the scope of our thoughts to primitive legends. If we are to save our children and our world we must accept the fact that the Bible is not the word of God.''

Fabulous website!

I sure as hell hope not. If it is, I'm gonna be pissed at Ehrman and Price.

Is there something else that *might* be "The Word of God" and the bible has to be disproved so it can be the undisputed champ? If "The Word of God" bit you on the ass would you know it?

Of course it's "The Word of God." It says it is. Everything that says it's "The Word of God" is the word of some god. Gods aren't real. What does it matter?

Does the bible actually claim to be the word of god, I can't remember, I know that someone writing as paul (although most non Evangelical scholars say its not paul) says that "All scripture is given by inspiration of God", but does that mean the literal word of god? Furthermore I find it odd that he didn't at the time mean his letter only the old testament when he wrote this.

^^ I think he only meant OT. When he wrote this NT wasn't Scripture yet. Paul's letters were the first NT letters so he could have only meant his own letters from the NT. Wouldn't that be a bit arrogant to declare your own letters Scripture inspired by God? Even for Paul.

Enjoyed reading that. Ive done so much reading the bible's contradictions in the short time since my deconversion. All the bible stories and excerpts are always so familiar. It's amazing to realize how many problems I had with what the bible said, how many times I read things that didn't sit right but forced myself to let it go and move forward in my beliefs.

Now that I no longer am trying to reconcile the inconsistencies or defend the bible it's so obvious that it's all a load of nonesense. i can't understand how I lied to myself for so long. wacko.png

Hi Madame Eve,

I strongly agree. And yes, Infidels is a great resource. I would just like to add too your wonderful thread, a quote by Thomas Paine, if I may.

Whenever we read the obscene stories, the voluptuous debaucheries, the cruel and torturous executions, the unrelenting vindictiveness, with which more than half the Bible is filled, it would be more consistent that we called it the word of a demon, than the Word of God. It is a history of wickedness, that has served to corrupt and brutalize mankind; and, for my own part, I sincerely detest it, as I detest everything that is cruel.
