Xenophobic/ Militaristic Rednecks

...Ever notice how the xenophobes usually drive huge trucks and huge suvs?...

Far right = authoritarian thinking (not always but often); they only know power, domination or being dominated, obey or give orders. Fat cars are a symbol of "I've got power", that fits their worldview.

Well to be fair, patriotism ain't bad per se... as always in life, dosage makes the poison smile.png

No, it's not "bad", but it is an "easy virtue" for many many people. It doesn't require a lot of thought, just emotional reasons that end in "AMERICA! FUCK YEAH!" or whatever country you're pulling for. Like I said, I don't admire it. There's nothing to really admire. You were born here instead of elsewhere. Woo hoo. If you choose to love where you are, well, ok, that makes you happy instead of being needlessly miserable, but it's not very courageous to live someplace like the American South and yell "USA! USA!" People will join you.

It's much harder to think outside of the box. I'm very much a weirdo for having actually visited a whole other continent, and bothered to learn about other cultures.

Illustrative story. When I was working in a tourist candy store here in the Redneck Riviera (Florida Panhandle), they sold these lollipops with scorpions and worms in them. Everyone who saw them either went "EEEWWWWW!" or gleefully showed someone who would have that reaction. I got used to all the dumb questions about them. But I tried, only once, to explain to one everyboy, that most of the undeveloped world still considers insects to be a viable source of protein - simply, that other cultures have different ideas of what "food" is. He exclaimed that they "were all sick and crazy." I then pointed out to him that the Masai in Africa, when offered cheese in an exchange of "home foods" with one man, were freaked out and confused. Who on earth would let milk sour and then eat the solids? This was completely insane to their minds, the same men who drank cow's blood. Again, the boy expressed that the Masai were just crazy. He didn't even try to see how someone else might see what he ate.

It's easy to see the sense in what you do every day, but much harder, nigh impossible for some, it seems, to see what other people do as normal for them. I see "patriotic Americans" around here, all too often, use that attitude to look down on everyone else. And for no other reason than they're "different."

Never ceases to amaze me how much these big tough dumbass SUV driving gun wielding fucktards are so full of FEAR.

Do ya'll have similar people in Australia?

They're common as dirt over here.

Only in the regional areas which means if you dodn't visit those you don't have to see them.

They don't come across as patriotic they come across as fundamentalist and obsessed with their rhetoric. And you KNOW how much your average ex-christian loves that approach.

I don't hate anyone. I just don't think being patriotic is a virtue. Not necessarily wrong, but not something I think is very hard or outstanding. It's pretty much "so what" for me.

Sometimes it feels like I'm in the epicenter of the God, Guns and Guts crowd. It is in every sense a religion. Everything is simple black and white to them, the pronouncements of their leaders are gospel, and you are either with them or against them - questions and differing opinions are not welcome. Simple, fearful minds.

Still, I know some good people who got caught up in or were raised with those views. It seems no different than falling in with fundamentalist Christians or Muslims. It is a life of faith in preposterous things.

If Patriotism means bankrupting future generations with 'military" mis-spending so wank-heads with low self esteem and small johnson issues can get their rocks off then count me as UN-patriotic

And if hating the patria's government unconditionally means 'patriotism' forget that for me.

Banging on Single language obession as a mark of membership in the 'patria' only betrays sloth and STOO-pidity.

If that is the price of admission to the in-group than COUNT ME OUT.

Left the shart-hole almost 10 years back because I knew that if I saw one more brain dead moron who questioned my patriotism I would open a new hole in their head so their oxygen-starved brain could get some air.

Better ex-patria than jail.

Adios mis amigos.

Florduh, your description sounds like the personality type one associates with fascism. Maybe in Russia the same types were loyal to Stalin.

I feel you McDaddy i surely do.

Rednecks dont understand their selves non the less the world around them.

My thing is travel (out of the fucking USA) and everyone accuses me of being a snob. I keep telling them, it will open your mind like nothing else.

Traveling to the third world country will revolutionize your view of the world. When i went to Honduras the united states seemed like a kind of fantasy land that couldn't be real in anyway.

YUP Did el salvador twice and you realize how nice we have it here, but then do bermuda or switzerland and you realize we are no way near the top 10 in standard of living. Third world countries: Great food and in el salvador at least, great people.

The Stalin museum in St Petersburg is very interesting in that it has a propaganda room. The artwork on the posters and even the slogans are mirror images of the Uncle Sam, Rosey the Riveter, Loose Lips Sink Ships, ect. type WWII propaganda used in the US.

Fascism is always going to get support from the black and white, simple minded xenophobic types, no matter which country it exists in. In Italy today, these people support Lega Nord, the pro North, anti immigrant, anti European Union party. In Latvia and Lithuania, it is the anti Russian nationalist skinheads. In Russia it's the pro military anti-black (how they refer to the Georgians, Uzbeks, Azerbaijani, etc...) knuckle-draggers, in the US it's the flag-waving, terrorist obsessed anti Mexican crowds.

Which is why christian missionaries (devilfinger.gif) garner my singular disgust.

Again, I just see some on here who think they are so much better because they are so inclusive....except for those they disagree with.......

I kind of remember a good creed....the Wiccan Creed....."Do as thou will, harm none".......Yet...I see just as much black and white thinking by some on here because YOU are not one of THOSE (flag wavers, nationalists, called pejoratives like knuckle-draggers, etc. Even Christian Missionaries as much as I despise their message....) What makes you better? Are you not being just as black/white thinking as they simply because YOU are not THEM? What are those people doing to YOU personally? Now...if they start to do something to you or others directly, that is when you do shit back...take punitive action. You sound as if you want to silence them...that is just as much fascism as anything you hate.

Ahhhh. The classic "is it intolerant to be intolerant of intolerance?" argument.

I dont think intolerance should be tolerated. That will lead to intolerance. Just MHO.

Sounds as if there are some pots calling kettles black on this thread. You are hating on one group because they are patriotic and you are not. Also you think YOU are better than they so you have to go overboard in your catharsis. Typical hypocrisy.

I think you're confusing "patriotism" with being an ignorant bigot who insults other nationalities. I expect better of people on this board, but I guess not everyone is able to throw out other stupid ways of thinking when they abandoned christianity. Keep working on it; you have it within you to let go of your obvious hate and fear.

Okay, I'm going to get real unpopular here, but here goes:

I just moved to the Rio Grande Valley of Texas in January this year for my husband's work. I am 55, have worked in professional offices for 37 years as a legal assistant, payroll specialist, accounting specialist and gues what???? I CANNOT get employment here because I am NOT bi-lingual. I cannot even get a job at McDonalds or Wal-Mart. That's right! I am and American, born and raised here, living IN AMERICA and CANNOT find employment because I cannot speak Spanish!

The locals here (those born and raised here) speak ENGLISH! But, we have to accomodate the ILLEGALS crossing the border! Yes, the ILLEGALS!!!

Spanish is taught here in school as a second language, just like French and German and NOT required. But to be employable it is mandatory.

Come down here to live and see how you feel about it! I am not against the poor people of these third wOrld countries coming to America for a better life, but I have NO expectations of going to another non-English speaking country and expecting THEM to accomodate me, especially if I am there ILLEGALY!

We have our own version over here, and, Hello! :) I was raised in the thick of it. Western suburbs of Sydney, full of bogans, followed by teenage years in a small country town. Hope my bogan past doesn't shock anyone :P

In many ways, though, much of it is a mindset. You can choose to go with the flow of the culture around you, or you can choose to educate yourself, expose yourself to people of different stripes, and be open to having your view challenged. In my mind, it is a choice to a certain degree to have that mindset as an identity.

Just... Don't ever catch me around some of my old friends. The bogan in me emerges and wild times tend to ensue lol.

Burnedout,

Sounds like a good idea but I would be having to sue the entire Rio Grande Valley and every company down here. Don't think that's possible. I met a hispanic woman here, that was born and raised here. Her parents were Mexican. She never learned Spanish. In fact, Spanish was discouraged here for a while. She's the manager of a bank here and just found out she will now have to speak, read and write Spanish, FLUENTLY in order to keep her job. Even she was saying, "This is America! Why do I ned to learn Spanish?"

I can't even afford the Rosetta Stone because I NEED A JOB, and can't get hired because I am NOT BI-LINGUAL.

We will be saving every penney we can to move out of here as soon as we can. Do you know of any StateS in the UNITED STATEs OF AMERICAN that are hiring NON-bilingual people??????????????

Like every other state, right? No, I do sympathize with you. I was in Houston once and found it 100% impossible to order a simple medium coffee at an airport starbucks. It was a big wtf moment.

Still, the language situation is utterly American. It's supply and demand, it's the scarcity principle.

Regarding the idea about an attorney, private employers may discriminate based on language unless there's some state provision to the contrary.

If you guys are moving, check out Williston, a city in one of the Dakotas. It's America's modern gold rush over there. A truck driver makes 100 grand a year there, I shit you not. Waitress: $26 an hour. No Spanish required. *** Belatedly realizing you're looking for office work -- no idea what's available in that respect. Williston is always on my mind when people talk about moving for work. My brain is somewhat drenched in stress atm, so it's probably best to disregard anything offensive that I've said as I swear I didn't mean it to be.

Poskets,

I'm checking it out now!!! Thanks. I love the area way north. I haven't been through there but did make it up to Montana once. I'm originally for Georgia, and north Ga. is especially beautiful with it's mountainous areas and the forest of trees, and down here in this area of Texas there are few to no trees. I miss that. Hell, I'd move to Oregon if I could afford to live there!!

Can you provide a direct correlation between the bi-lingual employment requirement and specifically illegal immigrants?

A link to a employment application or the like would suffice.
