The Changing View That Their Is Now "legal" Rape And "illegal" Rape

The last time I flew was several years ago, to get some stuff of mine that a sweet ex-BF had been storing for me -- including one of my cats. When I returned, the TSA in the Southern town I was in looked damn chipper about seeing me get escorted to the private room to be made to strip and whatnot, until it turned out that it wasn't my ticket that had the "do your worst" signal on it. It was the cat's.

Once we were all inside the little room, the TSA guy (I have never seen a beer gut that big on a human being, no fucking kidding, the guy's belly button was in a different zip code and he wore a hat and 'stache like he was Buford T. Justice) stared at the cat's boarding pass and then at the soft-sided carrier. I said, "It's up to you how you proceed, but I'll warn you now: she weighs 18 pounds, she's a feral cat, and she's really mean."

This was clearly not the conversation he'd expected to have at this point.

He ended up unzipping the carrier and leaning wayyyyyy over to peek inside and then hastily rezipping the bag and going "okay! On your way, miss!" I realize now that I could have put a fucking Glock into that carrier and he wouldn't have had the faintest idea....

I know this subject is serious, but envisioning the whole cat scenerio at the airport & what you told the TSA oversized man made me laugh!! :D

I also refuse to fly. I'd rather be free than safe, and what goes on in airports is a rape of our rights. I'll drive, walk, train, or even hitchhike before I would fly. Ironically, flying is statistically safer than all of those, but remember: I'd rather be free than safe.

Stop comparing the TSA to rape, it isn't even in the same league.

I fly all the time, have had my stuff checked, been patted down, none of it was anything like a rape.

Women say 'no' they mean 'no.' I am sick and tired of men who want to abuse women (THAT is the only reason I can think of why they want this) trying to define rape . I would without hesitation say that there are far, far, more women raped than reported.

Several women I know have been raped. Not one of them reported it, it was either date rape or they had been drinking; a classic example of what happens.

Comparing rape to the TSA insults both women and the TSA. Are there TSA agents that are rude, obnoxious, and arrogant? Yes. Rape? Not heard of it yet. Not saying it hasn't happened, but haven't heard of it yet.

It trivializes women who are raped. Don't fall into that trap. These SOBs after women's rights and to them, the only rape is stranger rape. My personal opinion is that a lot of them fool around and are terrified of being called a rapist; they want to define it to protect their own asses.

Pathetic, controlling worms that call themselves Congressmen. Almost makes me wish there were a hell for these jerks who decide which rape is justified, and which is not. NO RAPE IS JUSTIFIED.

... Um, I've been sexually assaulted several times, once as a very young child. I therefore think I'm somewhat qualified to speak about what I at least feel is comparable to rape. When I saw Buford T Justice's face light up at the sight of me in line, that felt very damned like a violation. Realizing that a disgusting, slimy worm like him could have forced me to strip totally naked in front of him made my skin crawl. How many women have had such an experience in front of him, I wonder? And have you noticed the photos of TSA inspection notices that applaud or chide fliers for the contents of their luggage? One such photo was about a dildo that a woman had packed; the note advised her that the inspector approved heartily of her getting her "freak" on.

Is it the same as rape, whether that rape is forcible, date, spousal, or whatever? No, not quite.

But it's still a violation of our most intimate privacy. I'm not exactly sure what you'd call it, but it sure felt like an intimate violation to me, and that's why I don't plan to fly until the TSA is reined in.

Okay explain to me how a cavity search is much better.

I fly all the time, have had my stuff checked, been patted down, none of it was anything like a rape.

So you have not been forced to strip? You have not been probed? I'm talking about apples. Perhaps you are talking about oranges.

Women say 'no' they mean 'no.' I am sick and tired of men who want to abuse women (THAT is the only reason I can think of why they want this) trying to define rape .

Excuse me?

I would without hesitation say that there are far, far, more women raped than reported.

So the world is defined by what you have heard of.

It trivializes women who are raped.

Of course it does not.

Were you talking about me or a Congressman? You seem to flip back and forth. The congressman's comments were certainly bone headed. Among other things I think he was trying to distinguish regular rape from statutory rape. Even then his comments were facepalm worthy.

No, I'm not talking about a metaphor. I mean if you want to get on a plane the TSA agent has the right to force you to strip and they get to stick their fingers into your body. To me that is a form of rape and I won't travel by plane until it ends.

I took a plane last year and I wasn't patted down by TSA.

Yeah I've never had to do anything more than take off my shoes.

But it's ok that the TSA routinely strip searches others, as long as it doesn't happen to you? Just trying to get clarification here, not accusing you of any position.

Well no I don't think it's OK -- I always think of the absurd search of that elderly woman's diaper whenever the TSA comes up. It's just odd to always hear of these things happening when, in my experience flying since 9/11, I've never seen anything like it.

Also, I'm pretty sure if the TSA wanted to perform a cavity search on me, I could always refuse and just leave the airport. This is also the first time I've heard of a random cavity search, and my feeling is that if that were happening it'd be all over the news. It's going down on my 'things to look into when I'm bored' list.

Actually, you aren't legally allowed to "just leave." You are at that point considered a national security threat. They have to find out what it is you are "trying to hide." Goodbye, 4th and 5th Amendments...

You can be detained on reasonable suspicion for a small amount of time, but that's it. Keyword is reasonable, and it's right there in the fourth amendment. *(Question is begged, what constitutes reasonable suspicion? Who knows? They probably make it up as they go along. Those are the details that take years to get hashed out in court, but I'm thinking that refusing a TSA search will probably do the trick.)

By "just leave," I meant that I would just refuse to submit to a cavity search and begin the process of getting out of there. As in, they can't forcibly search my anus.

Speaking of cavity searches, it turns out that the TSA does not in fact perform any. http://www.usnews.co...cavity-searches Myth down! *pschhewwww!* *pschhewwww!*

Yeah you can just cancel your vacation plans and then try to get the best refund possible. That leverage is coersion.

I hear you, but presumably you knew about the search procedures before you purchased your plane tickets, right?

Which is why I never puchase plane tickets anymore.

And this just sucks.

I knew about it in a general sort of sense, but not in the very specific sense I encountered at the airport, FWIW. I really hadn't realized how small those inspection rooms are, or how very, very vulnerable I'd feel once the door to it closed.

I felt I sort of had to fly because of the cat--it was hard enough getting her into a carrier while she was mostly sedated for a trip that would only last a few hours. I can't even imagine how bad it'd be to wrestlefuck her into it every single day of a multi-day car journey. (The other ex-feral I inherited from mom was so adamant about not traveling that I didn't even try to get her to my new home; my ex-BF happily cared for her the rest of her life in the house she'd finally gotten used to living in.) But knowing what I know now, I think I'll take my chances with the devil I don't know.
