R. S. Martin
This presentation was made at the World Religions Conference at a major university in the province of Ontario, Canada. Here are links for speech abstract, and Q&A he posted online. He explains why Stalin and Mao do not qualify as examples of Humanist governments. He says: To approach the reality of an ideal government we must end tolerance and we must begin respect. Throughout, he describes how he visualizes this respect. Just so you know how this conference is organized and divided up. Eight religions/life philosophies are represented: Aboriginal, Hinduism, Sikhism, Islam, Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism, and Secular Humanism. Each year the speakers present in a different order decided by drawing straws ahead of time. This year it so happened that "the atheists" presented last but this is not always the case. Non-Canadians may wish to be aware that this conference always has a distinctly patriotic flavour, possibly more so this year than sometimes.
Serendipity Rose
Wow. Humanism actually has some kind of a voice in Canada. That was great R.S. Thanks for sharing that.
