abysmal
My friend recently got involved in this cult movement called Trumpet Call of God and ostracized nearly anyone who wasn't going to be part of it, I've tried reasoning with him after I had looked into the ministry and found complaints about the leader being a schemer. But my friend wasn't going to listen and complained that I wasn't doing any research at all. After I had spoken with him for the first time about it asking him to look into the matter instead he spoke with someone from the congregation and called it quits afterwards. Does anyone have any information on this ministry, or, on their founder Timothy Speed Rathbun?
MultifariousBirdLady
Rick Ross's site has a thread on Trumpet Call of God, and a google search turned up some other sites where people were concerned about the tactics this group used. I don't know anything about them, myself, though. The ostracism is a definite danger sign. If your friend hasn't read anything about cults yet, it might help him to understand what to be careful of so that he can spot it if he encounters it. Churches That Abuse by Ron Enroth is one good intro, as is Steven Hassan's Combatting Cult Mind Control.
JoeCoastie
I looked into it. Certainly looks shady. What cracks me up about cults is how they reveal how established religions got started. Somebody has a revelation, is very charismatic, and gets tons of followers. In the Trumpet Call of God's case it that talks that God and Jesus had have now been revealed to a modern man who has started this group. WHY DOES GOD ALWAYS LAY THESE REVELATIONS ON ONE MAN AT TIME?!?!?? You think God would realize it would be more efficient and more credible if he told the whole world at once....

And it's amazing how people fall for it over and over and over again. Still in the 21st century.
