Chikirin Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 I don't understand the larger point that Christians are attempting to make with this statement. For the sake of argument, let's concede that atheism is a religion. What then? Where does the Christian's argument proceed from here? What now?
I Broke Free Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Many American Christians make the claim that “Atheism is a Religion” because if true it puts secular ideas and proposals on a equal legal footing with religious ones.
Burt_Lemur Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Yes, Atheism is a religion. I can tell you more about this amazing truth if you start sending me 10% of your weekly income. Thanks. Lemur 1
Rek99 Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 I'm interested in starting my own atheist church. Where do I sign up for tax free status? On that note, when are Christian Churches losing their tax free status? After all, they're not really a religion right? It's a relationship with god! 1
Ravenstar Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 I've never been able to figure that one out. Is it an insinuation of idolatry maybe? I remember watching a clip of the Atheist Experience and this fundie caller was trying to say that atheists must be listening to 'someone' or reading 'a book' that was telling them what to believe. She insisted that atheists MUST have faith in someone or something. She just could not get through her head that a person could do their own research and come up with their own ideas. The concept of thinking for oneself was outside of her ability to comprehend. It hurt my head. Bill O'Reilly says it's not a religion, it's a philosophy!... and we all know he's always right. I'd sure love to see churches lose their tax free status. I think we would see a whole lot more atheists soon after that went into affect. LOL
Jose Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 I like the one-liners... they really say it best. Atheism is a religion like OFF is a television channel. Atheism is a religion like bald is a hair color. Atheism is a religion like not collecting stamps is a hobby. Atheism is a religion like abstinence is a sex position.
Annier Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 SilentLoner, thanks for that video. I had a great laugh. I was a convert to moronism many years ago, I lasted 6 long painful years, and I really could not comprehend the dead baptism thing at all. The atheism not a religion bit had me cracking up as well.
JoeCoastie Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 I figure its just a means of putting them both at the same level. "I'm a Christian by faith therefore you're an atheist by faith so you can't judge my beliefs."
mwc Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Xianity is a religion. It has the real god and everything. Atheism is also a religion but doesn't have the real god or anything. So if you're going to be a part of a religion, and you are, you should be a part of the one true religion with the one true god. It's the same basic effort with a much better payoff after all. This applies to all religions so why keep resisting <insert name of religion here>? It's a lateral move to the one true religion and god. Don't let arrogance keep you from team xian! mwc
