Ellwood Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Recently noticed a "Christian" dating service TV commercial with the line of "Find God's Match for You". (And by the way, that phrase is trademarked so be careful with it. It is a money maker!) So you need a dating service to find god's match for you? The all powerful god is up there saying "gee! I have Jack all picked out for Jill but I can't get them together. Sure hope they use that christian online dating service to help me out!" Really? This is so typical of all the tricks and games we used to play to fabricate a god who interacted with us. And then we would praise him for finding us a spouse for example when in reality nothing different happened then would have happened to a non-believer. God didn't find your spouse for you - the online dating service did. God didn't heal you - the doctors and great medicine did. Finally, is there an online place for starving and neglected children to go for help from god also? Maybe that is why he is ignoring them? No website to work through?
Chikirin Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 I tried a Christian dating site when i was Christian and all I got was spam from Russian women
Sybaris Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Whenever I hear or read about how they think their god is personally interacting with them this always comes to mind....... ....and I think what gall these people [christians] have. 1
Jose Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Why can't they use the traditional methods of bowel-knotting terror leading to alcohol abuse and subsequent poor decision-making skills?
RipVanWinkle Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Sybaris: Don't think your alone, I have had that very same thought many times. It both angers me and makes me feel guilty for not doing much more for those poor folks.
NeverAgainV Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Whenever I hear or read about how they think their god is personally interacting with them this always comes to mind....... ....and I think what gall these people [christians] have. Yeah god helps his people win football games & find parking spaces, he's too busy for this.....
mwc Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Everyone wants god to help the starving kid. So god sets up a dating website to offload some of the work, gives some outsourced guys in India or something a few bucks, and now everyone's giving god shit over it. Damned if he does (if he could be damned...he does the damning, damn it) and damned if he doesn't (if he could be damned...he does the damning, damn it). Well, see if you get a good parking space next time you're in a rush and at the mall. mwc
stryper Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spark_Networks Looks like a guy cornered the market on niche dating sites. would've been better if the company that owns AFF owned christian mingle.
FeelHappy Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 When I was still a believer, one of the things which bothered me the most was just how pop culture Christianity had become. Take a mediocre band, slap the label Christianity on it and you have a seller. Take a NFL quaterback who completes 40% of his passes, but prays during games an you have a culture icon. Take a piss poor badly written novel like the Shack and it sells like hot cakes. Take an abysmal movie like Courageous (my wife forced me to watch it to make my mom happy...) and it makes 30ish million. Now you take a dating site, probably not near as good as the big ones, slap the word god and then you'll get a ton of christians. Says anything is god related and the sheep can't get enough of it and even if they hate it, they're afraid to talk bad about something which is for Jebus. Its so annoying and if Jesus were actually alive, I'm pretty sure he'd be disgusted at what this has become (probably more so that people worship him a man as a deity). 1
stryper Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qywevc5qP3Y sorry just made me think of this from my nuttier days.
HymenaeusAlexander Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qywevc5qP3Y sorry just made me think of this from my nuttier days. I was thinking more along the lines of this one:
stryper Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Had I ever liked DC talk's rap years I would've gone for that in those days.
HymenaeusAlexander Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Had I ever liked DC talk's rap years I would've gone for that in those days. See, I was a purist who thought they sold out to pop with Jesus Freak. I still liked the album, though.
FeelHappy Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 I feel this might end badly: http://www.youtube.com/embed/ooAi3KJ5I-s

More on track some where in the middle he covers the christian music explosion in the 90's and how it led to his deconversion.
par4dcourse Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 The world population has exploded, and god is still pimping?
R. S. Martin Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 some where in the middle he covers the christian music explosion in the 90's and how it led to his deconversion. He starts talking about his career in Christian music at 11:56 minutes.
