Goodbye Jesus

Disease As Proof Against A Loving Creator God

I have been suffering for over two months with Giardia (ever since I got back from India)

If you don't know what Giardia is then let me explain.  It starts off with nausea and stomach ache and then the diarrhea comes.  It will put you off your food at first.  You will have weeks (yes, weeks!) of diarrhea - and when I say diarrhea I don't just mean the sludgy brown stuff (although you do get that sometimes) - but there are also occasions when you look back at the toilet bowl and see nothing but yellow coloured water with bits in.  This diarrhea is relentless - you will need to go to the toilet several times a day.  Many times you will think you're done and be wiping, only to discover that there's more to come.  It is also very urgent and hard to ignore when you do need to go.

And it smells foul!!!!  If you only have a strong eggy smell to your diarrhea then you're lucky.  I have had several times when my diarrhea smelled like some kind of putrid dairy product (milk gone off or rancid butter but ten times worse) - it made me feel like vomiting just to smell the stench.

And then there is the gas.  Sometimes you just need to fart all the time (hot, eggy farts).  But be careful - because you can mess yourself accidentally also.

And worse yet, the disease can seemingly go away for a couple of weeks - only to return all over again afterwards!  They treat it with Metronidazole.  But it doesn't always work

Giardia is such a disgusting, horrible and potentially humiliating disease, that after suffering with it for over two months and the treatment I've received not working I came to an interesting conclusion about the non-existence of a Creator God.

If there is a Creator God - a deity that plans out and designs the Universe - then that means that he is responsible for dreaming up all of the world's diseases.  This might seem like an obvious and even banal point.  But just think about that for a while...  To create/design all of the world's disease then he had to sit back and plan them all.  Every painful, disgusting, humiliating illness - never mind how fatal they are, that's hardly even the point - he has to actually design and plan them all out - every disgusting symptom they would cause, all the human misery, all the diarrhea and vomiting, every pus-filled boil, every cancerous growth, every flesh-eating bacteria, every discharge and blood-flecked oozing sore.

What a sick, disgusting, sadistic bastard!!!  There is just no way to square the existence of a Creator God with the idea of God as loving, compassionate or even possessing a reasonably sane level of common decency.  Any Creator who dreams up all the world's vile diseases is a completely sick, sadistic bastard.

This only affects the existence of a loving Creator God by the way.  Other kinds of god do get off the hook a little.  A god that arises as part of the Universe might well be constrained by the rules of logical necessity - or even by evolutionary constraints.  Also a god that is not really a person but rather a kind of force or energy is obviously not a thinking being to start with.  Such a god is not planning or designing anything.

But a true Creator - a god that designs and plans out the Universe.  He must be totally sick, evil and twisted!

I agree about the description of the sadistic god. Having said that, I have another solution - stay the hell away from India, okay? If you had to go there on business that's one thing. But if you chose to go there for holiday, well - with all the other great countries in the world I would see them instead of that cesspool of the world. And my apologies if I offend anyone but I gotta call it as I see it. I remember hearing about someone on the radio who went there for a week's vacation. She got off the plane, ran to a cab, took it to the hotel she was staying in, got out of the cab, took one breath, ran in the hotel, stayed overnight, and immediately left the country the next day.

Evolution_beyond: Your absolutely right. But that's only a very small part of it. Natural disasters, nature(i.e. survival of the fittest), mental illness, fear, hate the vast differences in intelligence between humans, differences in the attractiveness of humans, religions, churches, the poor, televangalists, man's unbelievable cruelty to other humans, major differences in the strength of different people (making the weaker ones vulnerable), horrible history of treatment of females by males, horrible treatment of children, unthinkable cruelty to animals, mistreatment of homosexuals, uncontrolled perverted sex drives of pedophiles and others, guilt, death, hell, war, Pat Robertson, etc. And the list goes on. I'm sure you can list more. God is responsible for all of the bad things in the history of the world and current efvents because he has had the power to prevent them from happening. And he blames it all on his own creatures!    bill

Oh, I could compare horror stories with my adventures in Behcet's Disease, but I'll save them I think.  BD is autoimmune and genetically inherited so I'm stuck with it for life unfortunately.  Just know that very painful ulcers are involved in some very unfortunate places in addition to stomach inflammation, itchy rashes, painful sores (that feel like having bruises on your bones), nausea, chronic exhaustion, eye inflammation, etc.

I found out I had it about a year or two ago.  Became atheist very shortly after going through my first major flare-up.

I never understand those people who go through shit like this (or something worse, like Cancer) and come out of it with a "God is good" attitude.  Why the fuck does "horrible painful disease" = "loving creator" in their minds?!

He created disease, famine, and natural disasters, and war simply so more folks get to go to heaven sooner. He seems to love smokers and alcoholics most of all.

Bible god is certainly sadistic. Along with the horrifying collection of pain and suffering described in the posts above there is also the mental and emotional torment of having to pull multiple theological backflips as a believer to stay true to the bible while keeping a clear picture of a loving god in our hearts. He must laugh as he watches christians squirm around the troubles he throws into their lives. Must be a fun game for the Trinity to enjoy together. pyth.gif

A beeleever would say:

  1. Well, we live in a fallen world (AKA: "Suck it up!")
  2. God could help you, but he loves you too much to rescue you. There's a lesson here! (AKA: "Suck it up!")
  3. God owes us nothing (AKA: "Suck it up!")
  4. God wants to help us, but we are too mired in sin for him to intervene (AKA: "Suck it up!")

It's all BS. I hope you feel better soon. Giardia sucks! Never had it--which is pretty amazing--but I probably will one day. Keep rehydrating and see your doc or pharmacist about making sure your electrolytes don't get too whacked out.

For what it's worth, I have been sick for 8 years, and God did absolutely nothing (for the reasons stated above, no doubt). I have finally found a cure, but why couldn't God (all knowing! all good! all compassionate!) have given me a fucking heads up about the cause of my problem? Now, I know God hates amputees. I totally get that. wacko.png  But what about the fact that you've got the shits and I've got a major food allergy? C'mon God, it's invisible--you can do it!

Sorry. Rant off. Wine is talking.

Ah yes. God is so gud! Wendycrazy.gif

I'm sorry, but this cracked me up. Not because you're sick () but just the "diarrhea disproves god" bit. Very true. Anyway, best wishes and I hope you feel better.

29 And God said, See, I have given you every plant producing seed, on the face of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit producing seed: they will be for your food: 30 And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the air and every living thing moving on the face of the earth I have given every green plant for food: and it was so.

And to think these little parasites used to eat green plants the same as we did.  Amazing.  I wonder what they did to their god to get shoved up our colon's?

Hey! Our colons are Heaven to them. So, obviously, they've been very righteous little parasites, indeed.

Ah yes, another Almighty Caveat.

My cousin was diagnosed with liver cancer last May. She passed away this week. She was 52.

Inside the memory card they passed out at the funeral was a poem:

"God saw you getting tired

And a cure was not to be

So he put his arms around you

And whispered, "Come to me"

With tearful eyes we watched you

and saw you pass away

Although we loved you dearly

we could not make you stay

A golden heart stopped beating

hard working hands at rest

God broke our hearts to prove to us

he only takes the best"

Now I don't know about you but it takes some quality delusional thinking to suck that shit up. Funny how this God cures some, ignores others and at the same time only wants the best to join it. WendyDoh.gif

You're quite right actually.  Getting ill wasn't the only bad thing about the trip.

2 lessons I learnt:

1. I'm too soft with people

2. I was wrong about India being a beautiful, spiritual place

But on the other hand I did see some fascinating things and take some beautiful pictures.

Re India: I love some of the philosophy that came out of it, but honestly, I have no burning desire to go there. I am absolutely sure I would hate it after a day.

As my friend quoted a friend of hers recently "its a shithole".

Was that a pun to his story by any chance (as I'm laughing my butt off reading your comment)???

Sybaris: Sorry about your cousin. The poem will make you feel warm and fuzzy if you just stop thinking about what it really is saying.

Sorry you're suffering. I don't know that it was the same thing, but my wife had something similar a few months ago. It lasted several days. We finally took her to the emergency room. She had to be hooked up to an IV so she could be rehydrated. They ran all kinds of tests and we were stuck there basically all night. In the end, they had no clue what caused it. They gave her some meds and after a while, it cleared up. One of the nurses said she had something similar happen to her, and they were also unable to diagnose what was causing it. After a while, it cleared up.

Remember that old saying: "Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger?" It's utter bullshit. There are sometimes I think with a dark sense of humor that whatever doesn't kill you makes you wish you were dead.

My sympathies to all who are suffering from disease and other ailments. The bottom line: if there's a creator god and he's allowing this, he's not loving at all but a complete bastard. He could easily reveal himself, draw us to him by being good and not so fucking mysterious (even seeking to hide the truth and harden people's hearts), divide families in his name, etc. Then, this so called perfect being blames his imperfect creations!? That blame game and the threat of an eternal hell are the worst type of child abuse imaginable from a creator.

Why can't people see through this shit!? Why the insistence on clinging to an invisible, all powerful, supposedly loving (but disproving it by his actions) sky king? It's sad, but people are nuts. If sin caused it, you'd think that the Holy Spirit within Christians would make them better people if it were all true. But it doesn't make them better, it makes them so much worse in so many ways.

At least we can be encouraged that there are many of us who see through all the lies and bullshit. Evolution comes slowly, but one day, the belief in this biblegod will finally die out.
