Fundies talk about us... wow, just wow. Go check it out...

I remember when Paul Manata came on here.  Perhaps BAA does, too, and some of the old-timers.  I recall catching him out in a fallacy:  he treated "p only if q" as though it was "if q then p" (heh heh).

I only saw posts from 2005 on what you linked.  Are they still talking about us (oh please, please, i hope they are!)?

We were never truly Christians... I guess I expected that, but it still gets me that some people actually think that our belief was insincere.   I was very sincere, and Jesus was my best friend.   I cried for my sins, I prayed to God multiple times daily, I cried for the sins of others and the damnation of their souls... I rejoiced in my salvation.  I did it all.   I wish they'd believe us.

^Yeah I was going to point out the thread was from 2005 also.

I don't think they have much to say after their canned responses... it seems very thought-ending. They don't even question their assumptions. I wonder how they converse at all.

They sound to me like little cookie-cutter clones... not an original thought in their heads, is it the same on other christian sites? I don't know..

No. PB is very...well...puritanical. IIRC you have to give your real name and the name of the church you are a member of and agree to adhere to the Westminster Confession of Faith, London Baptist Confession of Faith or Three Forms of Unity. If you post anything that runs contrary to those standards they will report you to your session of elders. So yeah, not really much room for thinking freely.

The 1 John passage contradicts the Hebrews passage, and the application of the latter makes no sense.

Pretty sure Dogbert wouldn't be a Christian.

A while back I stumbled onto some joker's anti-atheist hate site and it had a whole section about this board; talked specifically about some members.

They think we were not really xtians because, if they thought otherwise, it puts their faith in doubt. How could a real christian endowed with the holy spirit ever change their minds?  That they will never do. So their "thinking" pattern is always the same. They assume what they believe to be true is infallible and the rest follows, just like piss, down hill.   bill

(sorry it's old - but I found it very telling)

Does that mean if one is 'born again' one has no free will?  They way they say it is like if you are real christian[tm] (ie: saved) that's it... it's a Calvinist view in a way, is it not?

(I don't really care what they think.. but wonder how it might affect someone having doubts - who may need our support someday)

hmm... this seems to be the popular view though about ex-christians in the christian sphere - funny I don't remember it ever being a subject when I was in...

Yes and to be sure, many of us know what it's like to live in fear of questioning things. But they should never make the mistake of thinking that because our faith failed, that we were somehow "false" converts. I lived that shit with all my heart and soul for decades, and it almost destroyed me, and I know I'm far from the only one. But I'll bet most of the people there didn't even bother to read anything here before giving their canned testimonies and regurgitating the same old tired phrases. But that's what you got to do when you're a Christian.

Their views are Calvinist. I don't think you can join that board otherwise. But they would not say if one is regenerate they have no free will. Regeneration simply gives the elect, through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, the ability to see the true glory of Christ in such a way that they will not want to leave him. It's also important to understand that when they speak of "free will" they're not talking about it in the libertarian sense, but rather the compatabilist sense.

Pretty pathetic to read some of that xian crap.  The best they can do is "they were never really Christians."

I was here in 2005, but lurking.

I do know that if Christians came on back then preaching the claws really came out!

I saw that list of reasons we left and it really is enough to make my blood boil.  Ughh!! If any of these xians came over here and bothered to read the testimonies section they would really know. But that would interfere with the answers they hear from the preacher. Which are all the reasons they can wrap their tiny minds around.  Stuff like this does make me think xians are intellectually challenged - at least in certain ways.

When I read it, it made me feel like laughing because of how stupid their reasoning sounded. It was just... logical fallacy after logical fallacy...

Reminds me of the old (80's) saying  Garbage in, garbage out.

It's just rote regurgitation... it's like they are inoculated against thinking.

and Deva.. one person said actually said that our Testimonies were 'made up'. (implying dishonesty) Can't remember the actual wording...

I'm still waiting for NPR or CNN to do an article about this site, calling it "The Rise of the Internet Atheists" or something.

Sweet Moses that thread is eight years old.

The internet.  It's old, kids.

Guess that mean we are too   lol

Sheesh... my kid didn't believe me when I told her there were no computers in my schools when I was growing up, or at home... She didn't know what a rotary phone was when she saw one...(how do you use it? she said?) sigh  lol

Some of the other articles are more recent though.

Yes, our testimonies are made up.. I'm not surprised they would say that.

They said it all the time while I was in bible college: If someone leaves, they will forever feel the holy spirit conviction OR they were never actually part of it. Once you accept jesus you are stuck.

I love the part where they say "do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you," in comparison to preaching to us. So we're vicious dogs and pigs. Do they think that's going to make us like them or X any more?

Oh its just the love of god being spread abroad in their hearts by the holy spirit that has been given to them.
