McMike Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Sorry if this is the wrong section... I just finished listening through both the Intro to OT and Intro to NT classes being offered through Yale's Open Course Program. Both classes were very interesting and informative. I went to college at a small evangelical Christian university, and I didn't learn half the things these classes teach. It was great to actually hear what current academic scholarship has to say about the bible. The OT courses is taught from the perspective of the Documentary Hypothesis, and the NT class is taught out of a Bart Ehrman textbook and talks about the questionable authorship of most of the NT. I've been tempted to send links to these courses to a couple of people, but I really doubt many would listen through more than the first lecture. I have to say that I'm really impressed that Yale has begun opening up their courses to the general public. People really have no excuse at this point for remaining ignorant when information is so easily accessible. I know I enjoyed the lectures, and I wanted to point them out to everyone. Here are the links: Intro to OT Intro to NT 2
rain Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 McMike welcome to ex C. I listened to both course lectures about a year ago and learned alot. I would also recommend these free lectures.
movingon Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 These sounds interesting! I will have to give them a listen. I always feel like I don't have enough scholarly information about why I don't believe
Discern Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 I just found the New Testament course on YouTube and I'm about half-way through. Really enjoying it. It's like a bible study class for skeptics. I just wish he would allow more time for questions so I can hear what the students are thinking. I also saw the OT one, so I'd like to watch that course next.
Eugene39 Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 I'm watching a session from the OT class every night after getting home from work and am thoroughly enjoying it, and will watch the NT class after that. Yale has some good courses online - a couple of years ago, I watched Intro to Psychology and am still drawing upon the knowledge from it.
