SilentLoner Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MN8JYhByVYg MIDWAY By Chris Jordan This video is about an island in the ocean at 2000 km from any other coast line. Nobody lives, only birds and yet ............... Source : http://www.midwayjourney.com/ Firsthand look at what throwing something as small as a bottle cap into the ocean does. I was actually almost teary eyed at this, and that never happens.
Ravenstar Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Something is wrong with us... I've always had pets and I noticed something about them, They don't sh*t where they eat, you know?. Plastic can rings are really bad, the six pack ones... please! cut them before throwing them away.. better yet.. avoid as much non-biodegradable waste as possible. I could go on - but the list is almost endless. There's a place in the deep ocean where there is a whirlpool in the center of the Pacific. There's this humungous floating swirling mat of garbage there.. like, tons of it. It's truly disgusting and kills many, many animals every year.
pandora Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 I don't think I could stand to watch that documentary. So incredibly sad. We are destroying our planet and the life it holds.
Moderator Margee Posted February 25, 2013 Moderator Posted February 25, 2013 Can't watch it. I'm the idiot that tries to rescue flys from the spider web........ 1
RipVanWinkle Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 If there were a god, I think he/she would almost be able to justify hell based upon what humans have done to animals throughout history. bil
wanderinstar Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 This breaks my heart. While walking on the beach after any storm I find it is littered with plastic that has washed up from the Indian Ocean. Much of the plastic may be local but often I can find objects that clearly are not from Australia. As I live right near the sea and snorkel in it every week I have a deep love for all the wildlife in and around it. I cannot stand seeing any animal suffer, heck, I even talk to spiders as I carry them out of my flat (the venomous ones) to encourage them to re-locate. It is wonderful that many documentary film makers and photographers are getting out there to show the world what we are doing. When we harm nature in this careless way we are also harming ourselves.
Moderator Margee Posted February 26, 2013 Moderator Posted February 26, 2013 And this is when jesus says he takes care of all the little birds in the sky....''Look at the sparrows.....'''. Matthew 6:26.......''Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable thanthey? 2
Kris Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 Margee-- I am the same way-- I try to save everything!! I take spiders out in cups, and shoo flies out the door-- I don't like to kill things. I did see this video on Facebook though, and it brought a tear to my eye. As the most intelligent animal on this planet, we have a greater responsibility to care for the other creatures that co-exist with us. We need to do better!

I take spiders outside too (unless they're really big, in which case they're SOL). And I have been known to rescue worms from the street after it rains.
Kris Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 And snails!! I will kill black widows though-- but only because they might kill me-- or rather, I make my hubby do it!
MultifariousBirdLady Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 There is so much wrong with how we as a species treat this planet, other living beings, and each other. The magnitude of the problem after so many years of ignorance and/or callousness is overwhelming. It is depressing and hard to face. One of the things that helps me is to consider the things we've done to reverse the damage that have worked. There has been some healing. There are things we can still do, and things we can still save. 1
