Liesbet Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 I really really miss talking to like-minded people! I was invited to a birthday party this weekend and we had a barbeque (in South Africa we call it a "braai") and I didn't know all the people there. But most of the night I had to listen to drunk talk about sex and cheap women and some of them smoked some pot. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with anybody doing it but what really gets me, as soon as I stood up in a conversation saying "Nah, I don't believe in god" a HOLY silence fell upon us. And I thought.... so, you call yourselves Christians but you are so going to hell with all the cheap chatter and pot smoking..... Of all the people there, must have been around 20 - 25 adults, only one guy was an atheist like me. Needless to say, it was so refreshing to chat to a like-minded person but I think we've pissed a few christians off..... not sure if I should apologize or not to the host.... but it just reminded me again that the day you become an atheist.....it is a road not much traveled.....
SquareOne Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Lol! Those are some weird-ass "Christians". God. What's it all about eh. Fuck me if I know.
kolaida Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 I know it's strange. I've encountered Christians like that. It's okay to be drunk, talk about sex and cheap women but the second religion is brought into it, you better not say anything against the norm. It's something I never understood. But those same people called me a "hardcore" Christian. So it's more than likely the people that do everything they aren't supposed to, but figure it's okay because, hey, once they ask for forgiveness all is forgotten.
mymistake Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 How dare you not conform to their demands on your life. Christians can be so arrogant. I'm glad you found another atheist in real life.
Guest r3alchild Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Can be lonely, its the same on both sides mate.
RipVanWinkle Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Well, chronic loneliness is another kind of animal. Loneliness caused by not being around people you have things in common with is not the same as being lonely even when you are with your own kind of people. The latter sounds more like a symptom of depression. bill

Ironically, lukewarm Christians seem more well-adjusted to life than those of us who were "on fire." Maybe not so ironic, after all! Now that I really think about it, why would anybody wanna be on fire for anyone? Wow. 1
Guest r3alchild Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Can be lonely, its the same on both sides mate. This is true only because lonelyness is not something thats owned. Its a condition that no side owns or could solve.
Liesbet Posted March 14, 2013 Author Posted March 14, 2013 Thing is, because I used to be a christian, I understand the shock when someone is saying they're rejecting Christ. Because as you all know, that is the one thing you can never deny..... I give people space to be a Christian but good grief, give me space to go to the so-called HELL..... What makes me and most of us different, is the fact that we were all at some point on fire for god. It is different than for those who just grew up agnostic. Note to self.... find like-minded people in Cape Town!
Lilith666 Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Yep. I know this Catholic who says he believes in X, God, etc. He also told me he does heroin and cocaine and got drunk four times in one week. And he wants to be a prostitute in Amsterdam so he can get rich.
