Guest r3alchild
Last night I was feeling so strange I had to lie down, after I layed down I started to feel that holy spook. It was a feeling of warm love creeping through my whole body, then I started to think "what is happening here, is this from god? is this jesus spirit telling me something?" Then I thought, "why the hell would jesus give me a feeling that I can't verify thats from him or anything else." I thought that because I have been a super anti christian for a few months and on this night I was not thinking any christian ideas that could have set off this reaction. (However an hour before this spooky experience I was deeply moved by a show on sbs called the fabric of the cosmos.) Then after I thought about the facts of this experience the feeling lifted and I was fine. Please share your spooky experiences and what they mean to you. Positivist
Remember that feelings are just neurological occurrences. I can get a type of god-buzz from two shots of espresso, or from a T3. Your neurons were firing a certain way, triggered by something. Enjoy the buzz, and be glad you didn't need any illicit substances or weird beliefs to make it happen. I attended a Pentecostal church for years and was a worship leader, so I'm well acquainted with the buzz and am quite adept at making it happen wide scale. However, the Best EverTM buzz I ever had was from 10 mg of morphine. God's got NOTHING on that!
RipVanWinkle
I don't get the spooky feeling anymore, But I get a feeling of guilt once in a while until I ;put my brain in gear. Boy, that bullshit we had to swallow is like an ulcer that never completely goes away. bill
ExCBooster
Chrisstavorous, You got it after a documentary, you say? I think you're fine: you're high on science. (I think that's one of the most annoying things about people realizing I'm an atheist: they assume my life must be soulless and boring. This just isn't true, and, really, the stuff we can verify is often so much cooler than anything anyone could invent.) If you need another hit, there's plenty where that came from. - it's a matter of scale. The history of life on Earth . Tiny cameras + birds of prey = Yes, I know it's math, o.O
◊ crazyguy123 ◊
I've felt this experience many times when I was a believer, usually during church services I would feel it, especially when everyone was praying for something extremely important together or while worshiping. I always thought that the feeling was "God's presence", but did not know what it was for sure. What is weird though, even though I am no longer a believer, I still feel it sometimes when I am in church and do not know why (yes I did say "when I am in church". I go there to keep my family members who do not know about my deconversion happy by going, but that's not really relevant to this topic). Could it be that I get this feeling from seeing how happy and excited the people are around me? I do not know. I have considered asking about this in the ex-C spirituality forum, but am not sure how to ask about it. I just hope that the feeling is not coming from a monster living in the sky.
Kurari
I understand that feeling! I used to call it God. After I deconverted, I was really sad because it was gone. Through a lot of personal meditation and working on remembering that feeling, now I just relax and enjoy it. A nice warm feeling of true love is great for relaxing with and taking away stress and helping you be a happy person. It doesn't need to be supernatural to be worth it. Natural is enough. Those feelings are real and healthy, no matter where they came from.

Many folks, myself included, have no "spooky experiences" - have never had even one...ever. Think about that.
BendyLine
I feel like this from time to time. Then I fart and it goes away. Seriously though, I spent a good portion of time in the AoG denomination. I "felt" what I believed was the Holy Spirit many times. Looking back, it was just people working themselves up into a frenzy. It's all mind games. I've had feelings of expanded mind and also just spontaneous high. Didn't have anything to do with Jebus.

par4dcourse
I echo Positivist. A minor change in neuro-chemicals and neurons firing. Same thing for rage or love. Your brain is producing your feeling.
