claireann
I have to admit this one is difficult for me still. It doesn't roll naturally off the tongue at all, in fact I feel like there's a physical block to me saying anything that's "taking the Lord's name in vain" I choke on the words. I also find myself cringing if I hear my 8-year-old saying "Oh God", or "Jesus Christ" and my knee jerk reaction is to wince and tell her not to do it. Then I'm plagued with figuring out why shouldn't she? Is it just me putting my own christian brainwashing hang ups on her or is it because I know it would be painful for her grandparents to hear her say it and I don't want to hurt them... Such a stupid little thing and it's one of the biggest brain FUCKS (I'm practicing my non-religious swear words too ).
mando rando
I remember reading the verses about not taking the lords name in vain, and from the context it seemed to refer to something more akin to saying "I am of the people of Yaweh", or "I belong to Jesus", but not living like one is supposed to when associated with that name. There was even a comparison to a woman marrying a man, taking his name, and then doing that "harloty" thing, thus taking her husband's name in vain. I think it's a modern American thing to think the sin is using the name as a curse word. I'm sure that's covered under some other sin list though....sigh....
RenaissanceWoman
A few days ago my husband's closest friend came over, and I "came out" as an atheist to him. He was very compassionate and argued his Christian points. (He hates organized religion and the rules man has imposed, so it was kind of a refreshing viewpoint.) At one point I got brave and blurted out a word that as a woman I would have never thought I would ever say... "So either God does not exist, or he's a total douche." The guy's eyes got really big, and then he busted out laughing. He said, "Holy shit, girl!" And we laughed some more. Ahhh, that felt good.

And, yeah, even as a Christian, it bothered me how sexist God and Christianity in general seemed. Like, why was it so bad I was born a girl? And it got really frustrated since it's always freedom this and freedom that for everyone so why wasn't the Bible and my rights lining up if USA was founded by a bunch of Christians? Why did I feel like my religion was making me choose to have less rights than males? Because that's how I felt and it really, REALLY bothered me. (Not the catalyst for my de-conversion, but definitely seedlings, I guess)
JosiahTheAxeman
I've been including some "fucks" and "shits" and "ass" to my vocabulary. Haven't gotten around to the big GD but I'm not too crazy about how the word "damn" sounds anyway so we'll see if I ever decide to throw down some "goddamns." I do like the words "douche" and "dick" especially when applied to Ye Ol' Yahweh.
