I Am An Agnostic Once More. And Honestly....

It's been much easier than the first time I de-converted. It's been a little more than 3 months since my OCD got really bad and it's still there and it's still bad(and I'm still dealing with really bad anxiety) but I feel like I'm getting better. It's definitely an improvement from before. Maybe that's why it wasn't as bad as the first time.

Although this time was different. I decided, out of the blue, that I was done with Christianity.

That's great news! Accepting the truth is really difficult when we were taught the mythology from the time we could understand. There's the day you realize it's all bogus, and you know it, but because of the indoctrination you're not sure you can trust your own understanding. You've been told specifically, as part of the myth, that you can't trust your own understanding. That's why Christianity is such a successful meme!

So, you lapsed. You fell back into it because, frankly, it's hard to get yourself un-brainwashed. But if there's one thing the Bible says that's right, it's that the truth will set you free. The truth is that the Bible is a book of myths and legends, and that truth has begun to set you free.

Congratulations and good luck!

Good for you for being honest with yourself and coming to a solid decision based on that. You are moving forward and I'm sure that the decision to leave the religion is already helping your anxiety. For my last year as a Christian I dealt with a lot of anxiety and I think it had to do with living a double life and having what psychologists call a cognitive dissonance. I believed and I did not believe. Actually it was more like a part of me wanted to believe but when being honest I really didn't. The brain does not like being in the middle of that game. I hope your anxiety continues to get better. If you feel the need to rant or get things off your chest then please post more and keep us updated here!

I'm having issues with ADHD but other than that I'm fine.

Thanks.

You know, I prayed constantly hoping these bad thoughts would go away. Obviously, they didn't.

Yeah, I did that, too (the praying constantly).  They don't go away without treatment.  There are just too many things you can't pray away and that is frustrating.

Depression and anxiety usually go hand in hand, unfortunately.  Mention it to your counselors, too, in case it's a side effect of the meds.  I had to go through treatment for both depression and anxiety (took about two years) and even then, it'll still sometimes bring you down.

Thanks, MM!

Thanks MM.

Now, if only I could deal with my fear of karma...
