Sheild Maiden
So a fellow history major and I carpooled to an event yesterday and on the way back, we somehow started talking about religion and she mentions that she is Wiccan! She has been a solitary practitioner for 5 years and was raised Christian like me. I am not Wiccan, but I have been researching and listening to Asatru podcasts and I definitely like some of Wiccan/Druid stuff, specifically the turning of the seasons and I have been dying to attend any holiday, whether its Samhain or Ostara, etc. to get a real sense of it. So were trying to find a time where we can get together for a more low key holiday, when we are still at school, like Halloween or over a short two day break because we don't live close during the summer or school breaks. I also invited her to a pagan pride festival next month in Long Beach. Are any pagans going to be at the Long Beach pagan pride festival? I cannot find any kindreds or covens that are active anymore in the OC/LA area, or if they are, then they are way too far away for me to join. Even if she can't come on that day, I might still come alone to the festival because I'm curious about if it is really for me. Sorry for the long explanation, I was just so excited about it! Sheild Maiden
I don't really believe in the gods but I like the stories and myths. I'm definitely agnostic at this point in time, but it just seems interesting to me and I would like to check it out. There is no reason to be insulting. gall
Gall, your post has been deleted. Please read the rules for this section of the forum and refrain from this kind of criticism here. Just to be very clear I did try and read the rules of this section...it could not find the page the rules are on and denied me. I have no idea what it says as I could not access it. why even bother posting this here send me a pm if you have a problem with me. I can just go someplace else if I am not wanted around here. If i was critizing her I would have not asked the question. On a deconversion forum it seems lik a legit question. Just becaus you read into it something I did not and do not now mean is not my fault. I still would like an honest answer to the honest questions that I already posted. Did she simply convert from one religion to another? Seems pretty blunt to me. I am not starting a debate only seeking information. I just wanted to be clear on what was going on based on her post. I had no comment to make back and if I am faulted for curiousity then I will just move on.

Sheild Maiden
Thanks, everyone! I'll definitely check out the pagan pride festival that's coming up in a few weeks! Clearly, that guy who posted didn't see it was in Spirituality section. I forget that atheists can be assholes too.
ExXex
It's not for me since I kinda see it the same way I see LARPing (not trying to be derogatory here just equally not for me) but I'm currently reading something that has strong pagan/celtic mythology influences and it's pretty fascinating! I like the nature and 'earthiness' aspect of with it, along with what appears to be a healthy view of women! It's the spiritual aspect of it I have most problems with probably. Anyway, the festival sounds fun! I hope you enjoy it

Ravenstar
Pagan festivals are fun.. I still attend Pagan Pride Day and the Summer Solstice Drumming the Sun Down festival here. Although not a deist in any way I have found good stuff in paganism, and I like being in tune with the seasons, paganism is good for getting in touch with nature. Have a blast! I'm glad you found someone to share it with.
Galien
Doesn't matter if a person does leave one religion for another. What matters is that it gives them peace. I have never understood why some people think that just because they have left a religion that it is now open season to hurt and criticise others over what they choose to believe. One of the things I fucking HATED about christians is that they thought it was okay to act that way. It's never okay. Sounds like a fun thing to do Shield Maiden. Party hard.

Sheild Maiden
So I went with my friend on Sunday and we had a good time. I bought a pagan pride bag, bought some beautiful wooden runes and a hammer necklace. We also went to a few activities, one on runes and got some good book recommendations and in another, I had a tarot reading, which was cool. There was an Asatru blot that was the last scheduled event of the day, but I left early because I promised my cousin I would have dinner with him, and now I regret that I didn't stay for the blot. But overall, it was fun, and I'm excited to go back next year. There aren't any pagan groups near me, but there is a UU church in Long Beach (the city where the festival was at) that has a pagan group on sundays afternoons so I will try to hook up with them and see what they are about, as my friend is Wiccan, and I am more interested in Asatru/Heathenry, due to my heritage and because I like the virtues.
