FreeByTheSea
I am fascinated by Jerry DeWitt's deconversion from being a minister to being an atheist. I've watched scores of his videos on YouTube and his uplifting "sermon" he gave to the American Atheists convention. I decided to do a Google search just out of curiosity to see what kind of opinions christians might have about him. I got to page 5 of the search results and found virtually NOTHING. All of the results I found were from secular/atheist sites. That just furthers my belief that Christians have their heads so far in the sand that they don't even WANT to hear what he might have to say. Total complete fear of what they might hear. Just a random thought I wanted to share.
Thought2Much
It is interesting that DeWitt seems to have flown completely under the Christian radar. I never once heard a Christian mention him or anything he was doing, especially since he's more or less targeting ministers. One would think that lots of pastors would be talking about how Satan in the form of DeWitt is trying to gut the clergy from the inside, but I never heard a single line in any sermon about him, even though I heard mentions about atheists as a group many times. RaLeah
No, most Christians prefer to ignore anything that might contradict their belief system. How else could they ignore the entire fossil record? Sure, some try to explain it away, but most just change the channel if they're watching a nature show and evolution is mentioned.
mwc
I don't care about random atheists that convert to xianity (or any other mumbo-jumbo). Other than some close family (and maybe some apologist needing some statistics) nobody cared that I did anything. I can understand xians not caring. It's not like this guy was the pope (and at this point I doubt that would generate much news). mwc
ExCanadianReformed
When I was a xtian I didn't follow 'atheist' news. To be honest, I didn't even realize that people like Jerry existed. I was cocooned in my little insulated world - that is exactly why most xtians never deconvert. They don't even realize it's an option!
DeadTOm
When I was a xtian I didn't follow 'atheist' news. To be honest, I didn't even realize that people like Jerry existed. I was cocooned in my little insulated world - that is exactly why most xtians never deconvert. They don't even realize it's an option! That cocoon is one of their greatest tools. I remember constantly being warned against spending too much time with non-christians or reading/watching anything that didn't "glorify god". It's because the more you do these things, the more exposure you have to the truth. If you get exposed to enough of it, you begin thinking for yourself, very dangerous where they're concerned. At some point, you'll start to wonder if everything you've been taught is total bullshit.
