Fernweh
Giving blood is an act of altruism and nothing more.
amateur
And you can get paid to donate plasma, but not blood. So people down on their luck can donate plasma if they want to make money. But it keeps the blood supply cleaner from drugs and HIV/AIDS, TB, and other diseases if they don't pay people. If they paid people, there would be no incentive for someone with a disease or on drugs to not donate blood to get the money. Anyone else remember the early 80's when HIV/AIDS was brand new and people were getting that disease from blood transfusions? How horrible would that be? They do check all donations for diseases, but it has to cut down on bad donations and waste if they don't pay people.
