FreeThinkerNZ Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 "Science, in constantly seeking real explanations, reveals the true majesty of our world, in all it's complexity. People sometimes say "there must be more than this world, than just this life". But how much more do you want? We are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones. Most people, are never going to die, because they're never going to be born... If you think about all the different ways in which our genes could be permuted, you and I, are quite grotesquely lucky, to be here... we are privileged to be alive. And we should make the most of our time on this world." Richard Dawkins This captures my reason to make the most of my life. When I was a xian, I constantly looked towards an afterlife that I thought would be spent with Sky Daddy and not in that burny place with all the atheists, jews, muslims, hindus and buddhists. Now I look forward to... today. And I am thrilled beyond words to have today. When I was told as a small child that there was a heaven and a hell, I was lied to. I missed out on the chance to learn about this world, through science and logic. But I'm trying to make up for it now. 5
amateur Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Especially in first-world countries, where most of us here are living and enjoying our lives. To half the world and to a lot of the world in prior generations, we live like royalty, even the poorer among us. I'm talking specifically to all of you here on ex-c since all of us are obviously literate and have time and the mental capacity to devote to philosophical musings! It IS an amazing world, just as it is, and we have a lot of amazing things to see and do and discover. We are very privileged and so lucky to be alive and enjoy our lives.
FreeThinkerNZ Posted April 8, 2014 Author Posted April 8, 2014 Our first world twenty first century luxuries of freedom, safety and communication make it all the more tragic that so many waste their lives looking towards an afterlife. Still, unbelief is on a steady increase and each generation it will just get worse for believers.

Free Thinker NZ We were all suckers, weren't we? Looking forward to the afterlife was part of the cleverly devised scheme to keep the masses blindly following Xtianity like sheep in this earthly life while looking forward to being saints in the next life, thereby leaving the Xtian crooks to run the "church" and get rich. It's those at the top that really disgusts me. bill 1
