Family Research Council Doublespeak

On resistance to gay/lesbian rights:

“Mississippi has the highest church attendance per capita in the nation,” said Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council. “People have strong convictions based on faith. It’s not an opinion. It is their understanding of religious truth. And they are not going to walk away from it just because it’s unpopular.”

Here's the link:

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/04/28/us/politics/gay-rights-push-shifts-its-focus-south-and-west.html?ref=todayspaper&_r=0&assetType=nyt_now

My take:

Perkins wants anti-gay/lesbian discrimination to be OK in Mississippi because religion is popular, and religion says, be anti-gay. Perkins ALSO wants it to be OK because religion is unpopular, so religionists have the moral superiority of the oppressed.

In the same paragraph.

Are you suprised? The common denominator here, is bigots wanting to be bigots without people pointing fingers at them. How convenient of them.

No, not surprised.  This is the sort of technique of propaganda that deserves to be noticed.

In an age of unprecedented civil rights, I would never deny anyone their right to self-delusional and intentional ignorance.  However, for those self-same people to use that stupidity in order to deny rights to others is unquestionably at the pinnacle of hypocrisy.

I like how a person's understanding of a religious truth is not an opinion.

This is what happens when you have a steady diet of bullplop.

What is the difference between an "opinion" and an "understanding"? What is the difference between "religious truth" and "truth"?

Does Islam have their religious truth?

Easy: Religious truth is a lie and truth is not.   bill

Nobody ever taught poor Tony basic logic. If they had, he probably wouldn't be head of something called "The Family Research Council."

Hello Dr. F.  I think your thread is aptly named, because there is nothing "family friendly" at all about the Family Research Council.  This despicable and depraved organization seeks to convert non-Christian children to evangelical Christianity and thereby destroy families.  In this, their hypocrisy extends only so far as a poorly named organization, because they are servants of their demonic, ungodly, and anti-family master, Jesus the self-styled Christ.  It is he who specifically told his slaves to hate their families.

It should come, then, as no surprise to us that this family-destorying organization opposes marriage, the very bedrock of the family, except in that specific instance when it is enjoyed by two straight Christians.  Left to their own devices, I doubt the Family Research Council would hesitate to steal children from gay or non-Christians and either convert them, or dash them against the rocks.  We are, after all, speaking of individuals who lack any sense of morality or respect for the rule of law.  As I have described elsewhere, belief in the doctrine of salvation by grace through faith robs a person of his ability to possess morality, for it equalizes all forms of wrongdoing.  It is this sort of person who can create an organization called the Family Research Council and dedicate it to preventing gays from starting families.

I listen to the Perkins AFA radio show from time to time and this guy loves to play the "Christians are persecuted" card.

In his demented, god-soaked mind, Christians (his denomination of course) have an imbedded right to be the default religion of the nation.

The ridiculous national day of prayer is coming up and I hope he prays himself into a stupor.
