SilentLoner Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 This made me laugh: Dear Prudence,Last week in church I sat behind a couple whose 4-year-old son was playing aWalking Dead video game that featured a zombie menacing a child in a tree house. Aside from the obviously inappropriate nature of this game for church, I am concerned that the parents were not bothered by it. Violent media is harmful to little children and I feel like I just witnessed an act of abuse. I didn’t say anything at the time, but I feel I should say something the next time I see them. The problem is I am a single guy with no kids and am worried I would just be ignored or seen as judging their parenting. Is there a way to call parents out for their bad behavior without seeming nosy or getting blowback? —Concerned Dear Concerned,Of course the boy should have been playing a Bible story video game. I’m sure you would have been delighted by the imagery for Fun With Cain and Abel, Abraham and Isaac Take a Hike, Joseph’s Brothers Play a Trick on Him, and Jesus Goes to Golgotha. One can take issue with choosing a Walking Dead video game, but it worked. The little boy was absorbed in zombieland, thus allowing the services to go on. That’s strategic parenting, not abuse. And believe me, you don’t want to go around making explosive charges against well-meaning people. If you have kids some day, I hope you will look back on this and laugh, because there will be times you’d let your child play God of War: Ascension if it would just keep him quiet for 20 minutes. —Prudie http://www.slate.com/articles/life/dear_prudence/2014/04/dear_prudence_my_childhood_abuser_now_has_a_family_should_i_go_to_the_police.2.html 8
xtify Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Haha. When my first son was little, I was still a christian. I remember feeling compelled to bring him up in the ways of the lord. But I wanted him to have a good childhood without unneccesary fears. So I didn't actually end up telling him any bible stories. They were all way too inappropriate. He later heard about Abraham being told by God to sacrifice Isaac and was completely gobsmacked that this was the religion that people actually followed. Star Wars is his religion, but he doesn't think it's real, he just wishes it was. 2
xtify Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Christianity is like the "Liquidation World" of multimedia and videogames with technology well behind the times. What a bunch of junk. 12:05 - 12:50 is just like describing by videogame my whole christian experience!!!!!!!!!!!! 1
xtify Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 12:05 - 12:50 is just like describing by videogame my whole christian experience!!!!!!!!!!!! Holy Shit! I think everyone can relate to that! (I also think that's religion in general.) You're on to something! LMAO... still.

Or Zombies on a stick?
Aries256 Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Zombie on a stick hahahaha sounds like a carnival food from a netherworld fantasy. 1
Wertbag Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Well he does have a valid point in that the walking dead series are R18 so no 4 year old should be playing it. And the statement that once you have kids you will allow them to play god of war to shut them up is crap.

Parenting can allow for kids to play those movies, and games, but also explain that they're not real, and it's all fiction.(Like religion). If it still looks like it's not right for the kid, then properly explain why it needs to be taken away. I played violent games, and watched violent and horror movies as a kid. No harm was done. Im fine now, as I was then. 1
Lilith666 Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 WD is too violent for a four-year-old. The bible isn't any better, but that doesn't justify allowing a kid who is so young to look at carnage and destruction. It's not relevant that it isn't real. It's still inappropriate for his age.

Deidre Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 lol! The irony is playing a game 'walking dead,' when that's pretty much how I felt when I was at church. I was sitting amongst zombies. 3
