♦ ficino ♦
Groan. This guy is pulling the "conservative religionists are the only ones you can persecute anymore" card. http://www.patheos.com/blogs/jameswellman/2014/05/last-acceptable-prejudice-on-college-campuses/ He might have a point that many students of color are also religious. I don't know. But he does not even try to show how religious dogmatism isn't inimical to the spirit of free scholarly inquiry that universities are supposed to maintain. If a religion professor, say, devotes a good deal of class time to presenting dogma as dogma which should not be questioned, rather than pushing for critical inquiry into religious texts and practices, I don't believe s/he would be teaching students how to reason. Aries256
Having your bullshit called bullshit isn't persecution. Having good people cold shoulder you because you're a racist, woman controlling anti-gay bigot who cannot stand the thought of someone fucking a couple girls or guys, is not persecution. You just simply suck and people either ignore you, or they rightfully put you in your place for your infantile lifestyle choice. Why in the hell should anyone give up their freedoms at a university and the things they like to do, to appease a small group of cry baby knuckle dragging, batshit crazy, heads up their ass morons? Fuck them, and their fairy tales. Don't like my friend wearing skimpy clothes? Tough. Don't like a classmate doing yoga in the lawn, tough. Don't like me kissing my boyfriend in your eye sight, tough. Here's what you do. 1: turn around 2: go back to your car/house/apt/dorm or whatever. 3: bury your head in your book of crap, and fuck off. Or you can pull your head out of your small intestine, and realize that there are many different types of people who do what they want, how they want because their fucking human beings, and *gasp!* adults! If you're too fucking stupid to realize this, or if you're too much of a lowlife scum to simply ignore or walk away from that which "offends" you, and go cry to a lawyer or some child raping priest like a little bitch you are. Well then fuck you. I'm not going to change what I enjoy, just to please your idiocy and self degradation. More and more people can't stand you pushy prudes and more and more people are going to fight back when you poke, prod and push them. Note: "you" is referring to the author of this bullshit piece and buybull/koran thumping assholes, not anyone on here nor the original poster.
Ellinas
Not being in America, I can't speak for what goes on there - but strikes me that this article is basically bemoaning the idea that people think it's a good thing to challenge prejudice. I would assume that the majority of people in America (outside of certain conservative communities at any rate) probably couldn't care less whether another has religious beliefs, as long as those beliefs are not dictated to others and alternative lifestyles and belief systems are not attacked. I rather hope that freedom continues to attack prejudice - especially when that prejudice masquerades as a religion of "love". Which is a rather less colourful way of saying the same thing as Aries256...
