◊ crazyguy123 ◊ Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 What's wrong with lukewarm? Well, lukewarm believers are likely to disobey if Yahweh says, "Go rape, pillage, and murder children and babies because some people in a certain town are pissing me off!" We all know how he feels about disobedience and we also know that when he says he wants something done, he means it. 1
xtify Posted June 16, 2014 Author Posted June 16, 2014 Well, Ironhorse, First the author starts off by saying that jesus is talking about enthusiasm, not good works. Because focussing on human good works doesn't impress the almighty and leads to the sin of pride. Then, he later contradicts his first few paragraphs by saying this: You might say, “It’s not about works, it’s about attitude. God looks at the heart.” But Jesus did not say to the Laodiceans, “I know your heart.” He said, “I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot.” Then he goes on to say lukewarm is really about mixing things. He says you can't mix the law with grace, which is so impractically stupid, I don't know where to begin with this: "The law – which is good – brings despair, condemnation and guilt, and leads us to Christ. God’s grace – which is very good – brings hope, justification and freedom through Jesus Christ. But these two good things cannot be mixed together. If you try to mix law with grace you’ll end up with the benefits of neither. How do you dilute the power of the law? By lowering God’s holy standards to attainable levels of human performance. How do you negate the unmerited favor of God? By trying to earn it through observing the commandments and other acts self-righteousness."
