ContraBardus
Our favorite creationist nutjob is at it again. This time targeting the space program and suggesting it should be defunded because the space program, specifically the search for intelligent life, is a "deliberate rebuking of God" and "aliens are going to hell anyway". “And I do believe there can’t be other intelligent beings in outer space because of the meaning of the gospel,” Ham wrote. “You see, the Bible makes it clear that Adam’s sin affected the whole universe. This means that any aliens would also be affected by Adam’s sin, but because they are not Adam’s descendants, they can’t have salvation. [...]” “Jesus did not become the ‘GodKlingon’ or the ‘GodMartian’! Only descendants of Adam can be saved. God’s Son remains the “Godman” as our Savior,” Ham continues. “In fact, the Bible makes it clear that we see the Father through the Son (and we see the Son through His Word). To suggest that aliens could respond to the gospel is just totally wrong.” I actually had to check this a couple of times when I was reading it to make sure it wasn't an Onion article or something. There are multiple sources that confirm it as true, and yes, he's actually serious. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2014/07/22/1315850/-Creationist-Ken-Ham-End-the-space-program-or-go-to-Hell Here is the article that is being referenced. Warning, it comes from his "Answers in Genisis" site, so the fundy is strong there. There is an update at the top where he claims he said no such thing, but the segments where he said exactly that are still in the article. He didn't even bother editing them out. http://blogs.answersingenesis.org/blogs/ken-ham/2014/07/20/well-find-a-new-earth-within-20-years/ Here is his rebuttal to the articles reporting what he said where he tries to defend what he said while admitting that he said it and still claiming everyone else is wrong and just misinterpreted him. Seriously, I'm not kidding. http://blogs.answersingenesis.org/blogs/ken-ham/2014/07/22/huffington-post-admits-its-site-was-always-meant-to-be-fiction/ Basically he claims that he says that Aliens don't exist because his Bible says so, but even if they did even Jesus can't save them and they are going to hell anyway. Apparently unless the space program can "spread the ministry of God" across the galaxy and "save the souls" of any intelligent life it finds, it has no value. Plus there's nothing out there anyway and it's a waste of time. There is absolutely nothing else to be gained by the study of other planets and the advancement of technology apparently. Yeah, that totally makes sense because many reasons and the Bible and stuff.
Avandris
Well that seems a little unfair.... They are inflicted with the curse of Original Sin but denied the cure? Seems rather heartless, after all aliens would be God's creations as well. Parental favouritism at its worst!

bornagainathiest
Wait! Wait! C.S. Lewis covered this in his Perelandra, Out of the Silent Planet and That Hideous Strength trilogy. All aliens are born sinless and morally perfect. They automatically go to heaven. It's only here on Earth that things got screwed up. Which is why Jesus was needed to save ONLY the Earth from sin. Everywhere else in the universe is just fine!

BrotherJosh
Here's the sad thing too. Our long term survival is dependent on our exploration of space. We need to colonize other planets. The Ken Ham's of the world would ultimately lead us to our exctinction.

He places Adam and Eve on earth 3. He then places the forbidden fruit test and he knew these two would eat it 4. He places aliens in other worlds where they have no say at all in any matter 5. When Adam and Eve ate, those aliens were powerless as they were damned alongside humanity 6. God's only method of saving those people he damned did not include any non-human life (that includes animals, aliens, and the cookie monster) 7. Therefore... god, the creator of the universe and all its lifeforms, damns 99.999~% of said life JUST to save a small portion of humanity That's some of the most narcissistic shit I've ever read. zanOTK
I remember seeing this on Facebook. I'm just going to copy my response from there, and edit it for readability, and hit reply. Let's assume the foundation of Ken Ham's argument is true. I don't believe it to be, but, just for the sake of argument, let's say God created the universe in 6 days and made the species homo sapiens in His image. He would still be wrong. If only homo sapiens are made in God's image, then only homo sapiens have souls. And if only homo sapiens have souls then extraterrestrials cannot go to hell, because they would have no souls to send to hell. Now let's say, for the sake of argument, that God did, in fact, make ETs in His image during that same 6 day period. One would think they would not be held accountable for homo sapiens' screw up. If they were, this makes God unjust. But, He's still loving, right? If so, then He must have sent a savior to them as well. If He did not then He is damning all intelligent life in the universe to eternal torture except for the one that screwed up initially. This makes Him not only unjust, but a total monster. So Ken Ham is saying that either aliens do not exist or God is downright evil. I think he needs to rethink this whole thing.

seven77
Ken Ham and Kevin Bacon. Men named after tasty pork products. ET would sprinkle them with Reese's Pieces and call it day.
