SquareOne
Christianity has rather a lot to say about sexuality. Church culture inculcates into men a certain idea of the nature of women. Women are presented to men as fragile vases, which are to be kept pure and separate from immorality. Various teachings encourage this view: the culture of abstinence, a culture of strict gender detachment, teaching men that to even look twice at a woman is sinning. Women within churches are very reserved, dress in a certain decorous way, and provocative behaviour is frowned upon. There is, an encroaching overall effect that settles into the brain of the Christian man that women are not interested in sex, and are not sexual creatures. Women, as it turns out, are just as sexually minded as men. In what short experience I have had since deconverting, it has come much more to the front of my attention that we’re basically all the same in our horniness. All those Christian girls, so properly behaved, are itching for sex every bit as much as the men are. Why must the church put people into such chains of the mind? It’s just not right my friends.
Super Moderator TheRedneckProfessor Posted July 30, 2014 Super Moderator Share Posted July 30, 2014 The easiest way for a mental virus, such as religion, to replicate is to pass down from parent to offspring. Thus, one of the goals of the virus is to take control of the parts of the brain that govern sexual activity and reproduction. If christians were allowed to have sex wantonly, there would be an tremendous influx of children, lessening the chances that the virus could replicate itself in all of them. It is in the virus' own best intrest to control the size of its target population, thus making its own survival that much more likely.
amateur
I'm a fucking fragile and pure vase, so get the hell away from my 1997 copy of Penthouse Letters. I love sex. I enjoy porn, especially the written word. Literotica is my favorite web site to find sexy stories. I prefer real-life sex, but reading stuff sure gives me some good ideas to try out! For whatever reason, the church's teachings on sex never stuck to me. Possibly, that's related to when I was growing up, whenever my dad would say anything about a "sexy" movie or "sexy" tv show or tell a mildly "sexy" joke, that's always the word he used -- "sexy." He NEVER used the word "dirty," and neither did my mother. So I guess I never had a "dirty" view of sex. To me, it's always been "sexy." On a side note, my dear ex-husband, who was always an atheist, also thought that men enjoyed sex more than women, and that young women used sex to "trap" men into marriage by getting purposefully pregnant, NOT because women enjoyed the sex. But he had to acknowledge that I enjoyed sex way way way way way way more than he did. He still clung to his "fact" that men enjoyed sex more than women. We discussed this in a rather circular manner more than once! Whatever! People are funny! I have my own goofy views, and he's entitled to his.
Leo
Wise words. Guilty as charged RE: Post 2. Having raised a daughter, I do feel really bad for the exposure, even though as a Christian I didn't buy into the whole purity ring etc. etc. but the notion that there is just that right one is out there. My own daughter came home and tried to tell me she didn't want to date anyone till she met the right one. Clueless Christian that I was, I had no idea that this backwards thinking existed at all today in civilized society. I handled it badly, the conversation ending with her calling me a racist and saying her youth leaders weren't like that. Admittedly a bit of an Al Qaeda / Afghanistan history lesson on how women gradually lost their rights was thrown in the mix, that and comparisons with what these people were telling her. Proof that I fucked up? She still thinks that stuff about dating.

RipVanWinkle
We have to discover for ourselves whatever it is that comforts us best.because I don't believe it is the same for everyone. Remember what Mark Twain said:" I was not alive for eternity past before I was born and it did not inconvenience me any." Or something like that. Religion, which, as you say. probably was invented at least in part to alleviate fear of death also caused our failure to accept death on its own terms as part of nature. Had we lived from birth without the fairy tale of god and heaven I believe we would have all accepted death better than we have. It is really just a part of growing up. bill

Scottsman
I was shocked to discover this when i left. Women love sex. Women love to talk about sex. Women want it just as much or more than you do. I would never have discussed or brought up sex before my deconversion. Now i openly talk about it with the gf like its completely normal. I love how openly we can discuss it. Likes, dislikes etc. To answer your question. http://m.psychologytoday.com/blog/look-it-way/201005/why-does-god-hate-sex And just for fun. According to the bible premarital sex is a-ok. http://www.123helpme.com/premarital-sex-is-not-a-sin-against-god--view.asp?id=163282
SquareOne
Women within churches are very reserved, dress in a certain decorous way, and provocative behaviour is frowned upon. Not any more. Have you frequented Christian churches and church-related events in recent years? It may not be the case where you are, but in the U.S. particularly among evangelicals, provocative dress and behavior are becoming more common, as is "fornication" among Christian adults. (Adultery is also on the increase -- or it's out in the open more than before -- but that's another matter.) There is, an encroaching overall effect that settles into the brain of the Christian man that women are not interested in sex, and are not sexual creatures. This is changing, too, as a result of the above mentioned trend. Christian men may be more confused about Christian women, and women in general. But sexuality and sensuality are far from being the taboo subjects they were a couple generations ago. I was talking about my own experiences in the UK. There are hypocrites of course, but either way, the general message that is inculcated is a rather sexless one.

As atheistic as Germany might be compared to quite a few other places, I've never had any chat with any woman about sexual topics unless the gal was either already in a working relationship with me or the chat was strictly and completely abstract (i. e. it was totally out of the question that whatever was said might ever apply to any possible relation between the woman and me). And the latter is a damn rare thing too. It's probably a major reason why flirting and such is totally impossible to me. All I have to rely on is whatever the media or such claim, and what's claimed about sex by German media is a constant shitstorm right from the lunatic fringe of feminism (i. e. the proverbial man-hating feminazis). xtify
I was raised pentecostal, and for a woman to dress or act provocatively, or for her to even have the perceived reputation of being sexual in any way, would be considered evidence of demonic influence. The idea of women having their own sexual urges was considered a myth. The only reason a woman would act horny would be the result of demons using her to gain access to a man of gawd and cause him to sin. Many pastors make claims about women that really bother me. For example, Charles Stanley says you can measure a woman's self esteem by how much cleavage she shows (as in the more cleavage, the less self esteem). This hasn't been my experience. The more confident a woman is with herself the more willing she is to work whatever she's got going. The judgements these pastors make just reinforce the idea that if a woman is scantily dressed, she doesn't respect herself. That's untrue, and it just leads to women being mistreated by both men and other women.
Deidre
Christianity likes to pretend it's holding women on a pedestal never to be treated like objects but the irony is that Christianity breeds sexism.

True. Just like Islam and how they claim they "protect" their women from the world by restricting them access to it. Christianity makes it seem like the most "blessed" a woman can be is to become a homemaker, shut-in. It's okay for a while, but after a few years, the pumpkin shell starts to stink.
