In May, Welby said that it's right and proper that England allowed same-sex marriage, and that he thinks "it's great" that it's allowed.  The Church of England had to affirm officially its opposition to same-sex marriage after Welby's statement.  Now they have to spin his "doubts."

A little like the RCs trying to handle what the Pope says in the media.

I like how Welby both expresses doubts sometimes about God and expresses support for gays and lesbians.  Sort of makes me think that again, religious orthodoxy is about the only basis for vociferous argument in favor of oppression (in one form or another) of people based on sexuality.

He completely contradicts himself. He is really a non-believer deep down inside but it would cost him way to much to fully admit it. That's the feeling i got.

I like Pete Rollins' commentary, though he could have used a proof-reader: http://peterrollins.net/2014/09/the-people-are-naked-dont-tell-the-emperor/

If the highest ranked Christian Vicar in the UK has doubts about the Christian God then "God" help the rest of them

We're told that Thomas, among others, had doubts.  It's part and parcel of the religion.
