Which Version?

Recommended Posts

I'm planning on doing some research on the Christian bible. I want to get to know it better than most Christians, so that I can make better arguments against their beliefs.

What would be the best version to use?

If you are going to make a permeant record then KJV is public domain and has no copyright protection.  If you are planing to do it all verbally then I would pick the current popular version.  Whatever your local Bible store carries the most.

I bought a copy of the "ESV Single Column Journaling Bible" by Crossway. I think the ESV is supposed to be more accurate than NIV.

That's what I downloaded to my kindle. Figured it would be as good as any.

Make sure you include the Apocrypha, which is scripture for Catholics and Orthodox but not Protestants!  Esp. do a riff on the verses that Catholics use as a major proof text for Purgatory, heh heh.

Jeremiah 31:33 might be a good place to look for the answer to your question....

KJV is most widely accepted.  NAS probably has the most accurate and literal NT translation.  Young's Literal is a good resource.
