Cousin Ricky
The very day that my first jury duty thread auto-locked, I got the notice that my service period was ending. They never did call me a second time, so I didn’t get a chance to bitch about swearing to a god I don’t believe in.I’m due to pick up my stipend and travel reimbursement tomorrow. I wonder if there will be an appropriate venue at that time to air my concern about having to misrepresent myself in the process of promising to uphold the truth. Orbit
I would send an email to Freedom From Religion Foundation and let them do it for you.
Cousin Ricky
The option to affirm is mentioned in the orientation booklet, but it was not clear to me how to exercise this option. I brought this up in the clerks office today, and lady said that I could raise my hand on the courtroom if I wanted to affirm rather than swear. I accepted that for the next time they summon me, but suggested that they mention this during orientation so that future jurors would know how to exercise this option. She said she would pass on my suggestion. I am satisfied with this outcome, and see no need to bring in the FFRF.
