The Garden Of Eden

I simply do not believe that Adam and Eve grew in knowledge purely because they ate fruit. I don't buy it at all. The same with the tree of life. Had they eaten from that tree they would have lived forever in their Earthly form. I cannot see how Christians can talk of enchanted fruit with a straight face.

It's an allegory by intent. They chose knowledge over blind faith, and that's a bad thing when you're trying to sell a religion. Christians who take the story literally are idiots.

To add:

Some Christians say its a metaphor or merely symbolic, but that doesn't wash if Jesus came to save us from the sin of Adam eating the apple.

I wonder what would have happened if only Eve had eaten the fruit presumably, she would have died but Adam would still be alive now.

What about their children, does sin enter via the sperm and the egg or just one or the other. An non fruit eating Adam would have passed on his sinless sperm to fuse with Eves sinful egg, causing their children to be half sinners.

The lesson is that exercising free will has its consequences, therefore proving that free will is not free.

So the big guy didn't want us to think for ourselves?

Knowledge is the enemy of religion.

Would have made for an interesting story if they had eaten from the Tree of Life first, then the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil second; then they'd be sinners that couldn't die and they'd be able to piss Yahweh off forever (assuming of course he didn't just wipe them out of existence, in which case they wouldn't be able to live forever; but death as we know it would not have existed).

that's what happened if you accepted apple's term and condition without reading it first

The next time you are discussing Adam and Eve with bible believers, be sure to ask at what point the descendants of that couple began to start having oriental children and black children. You will hear such a convoluted load of apologetics that it will certainly remind you of why you left the delusional cult far behind and went with logic and reality.

P.S. to a moderator, can you please allow me the option of editing my posts. For whatever reason, I never see my obvious grammar mistakes until I hit the 'post' button.

I heard an odd take-off on this. Some of the same folks who are UFO devotees say that the space people Anunaki planted us here as slaves to do work, but that one of their kind didn't like that and gave us a substance that changed our genetics to allow us greater mental capacity (the snake and the fruit). They treat any old fable as having roots in something that actually happened, and then fill in the rest with conjecture. Sells lots of books. My favorite absurdity is that the Great Pyramid is actually a weapon to fire a beam into space. Not a very directional weapon. I keep asking, ok if that is true then build a working model.

God has to send Himself to be temporary killed by His own creations on account that parents of said creations ate a piece of enchanted fruit at the urging of a talking serpent who may have been a fallen angel who fell out with His all powerful Creator......

And you need to pretend to believe this stuff  if you want to be the POTUS

My understanding of this principle is that the true sin was rebellion. The nature of the rebellious act is almost irrelevant.

I used to be a Christian who literally believed in the veracity of Genesis (having been indoctrinated to see no other alternative). For me, it wasn't so much that the fruit was magic as that it represented a choice to rebel. Once the choice was made, God gave Adam and Eve the ability to distinguish between good and evil. Having said that, the entire story is ridiculous and obviously false.
