Thank You Jesus

It’s on the news that a family had mistakenly been told by police that their son had killed. Naturally devastated they had informed other members before driving over to the home of his girlfriend to tell her. Upon arriving they find the son alive and well. The police had told the wrong family. The report includes the family “praised Jesus”. For what exactly:

For allowing the death of the man who did die

For allowing the police to make such an awful mistake

Jesus, 2000 years of getting the praise and never the blame

They praised Jesus cuz they got there just in time to stop their son from impregnating the girl...

They called it a "miracle." Yeah, like it really took divine intervention for the police to fuck up and tell the wrong family!

The entire rationale for thanking and praising Jesus for everything drives me up the wall. Years ago I was very very ill and I did not expect to come out of hospital. After extensive treatment and drugs I recovered. One nurse claimed it a "miracle" and you got the sense (from her clasped hands and Jesus smile) that naturally it was a Christian miracle........I guess Jesus was working through the doctors and using the drugs to heal me........Praise Jesus.........

Bus explodes killing all the children on board *Praise Jesus, He took them all home and they died instantly so they didn't suffer*

Slaver owner takes stock of new slaves *Praise the Lord, the plantation is saved*

The slaves are freed *Glory to God, He has seen their suffering, heard their prayers and set them free*

Wife leaves you, bank forecloses as you lose your job *God has a plan for you and never gives you more than you can handle, Praise Jesus for he is good now and forever*

Car breaks down *Praise Jesus, for He has given you the chance to reflect upon His goodness as you wait for a tow truck*

Car doesn't break down *Praise Jesus, He has ensured your safe journey

So on and so on

Its the same with a national tragedy. Some nutter goes into a school and shoots up the place and *Jesus is there, working with the first responders, followed by prayer and thanks for the children that didn't get killed*  Why doesn't Jesus tip off the police of the gun man's intentions. Answer, "Because He doesn't work that way" or "He can't invalidate the gun man's free will"

For fucks sake..................

I wonder why god never told any parent of a young child that their beloved priest is a pedophile, and they should leave that parish and NEVER leave their child alone with him.  That is the one situation in which I have never heard a "Praise Jesus."  Nobody says "Praise Jesus, Bobby was sexually abused for years by that man and has never been the same, even with extensive therapy, and the priest was sent to different parishes and not caught abusing children for over 40 years!  But 40 years later, and a multitude of children who have grown up traumatized, he has been defrocked!  Praise Jesus!"

No one has ever justified that.  And I'm glad.

Tribalism, kin selection and nuclear family bonds will usually produce a result like this.  This is not surprising at all.  That family's addiction to a particular religion is hardly relevant.
