Llwellyn Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 As an atheist, I agree that Jesus is the only way. Jesus is a way in the manner that Christianity says he is a way, and he is the only way to what Christians call salvation. "This is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent." John 17:3. “Blessed are those who hear the word of God and obey it.” Luke 11:28. Defined in this manner, I can agree that Jesus is the only way. And I'm glad that he is the only way because I do not want Jesus, the way, or Salvation. I don't care to have words stuck in my brain, and I'm not delighted by this kind of salvation. I would prefer to be blasted with eternal curses and to die a spiritual death. This is what I judge to be salvation, regardless of what Yahweh judges to be salvation. I wouldn't agree that Jesus is the only way to go crazy, but I do agree that he is the only way to go Jesus-crazy:
Deva Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 The problem is always with scripture and a literal understanding of scripture. If you take "I am the way the truth and the light" and say that is IT, that is the only truth, then you cannot hear anything else. What Oprah says makes sense, but only if you are out if this literal understanding of scripture and taking the Bible (understood in a certain way) as your only right way. Oprah is smart enough to say "I can't get into a religious argument with you." You simply cannot communicate with these types who have only one understanding and are basically brainwashed.

I've been there and, looking back, I was one of them. Thankfully, not anymore. 1

Moderator Joshpantera Posted December 30, 2014 Moderator Posted December 30, 2014 It cut off, but Operah's next move may have been to ask what about all of the people who have already died in remote places but never heard of the name Jesus? The woman seemed to be clinging to the idea that Jesus won't come until the gospel is preached to the four corners. Yes, but that's a red herring. That has nothing to do with people in the past and present who never heard of Jesus. Operah had her backed into a corner that would have been nice to see get played out further. But of course Operah's supposed to be illumi-naughty at the same time, so I'm sure the Christians would have resisted no matter what....... 1

That is very very true. That is exactly what happened when i was a christian, i wouldn't even tolerate anything outside what i was told. I am glad to be free though. Right you are Deva. -peace
Justus Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 You simply cannot communicate with these types who have only one understanding and are basically brainwashed. Yeah I know what you mean, it's kinda hard to communicate with them, but at least the ones that aren't listening to you have understanding.
Ravenstar Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 This isn't the place for that, Justus. Just sayin'
