Castiel233
I am not convinced myself, would love to see to see it happen but don't think it will. A seven month voyage through space and being exposed to radiation makes it all but a death sentence I think.Unless there is a massive leap forward in technology I can't see it happening within the 2025 time frame being discussed Opinions? Storm
I think I would agree with you, however, there are some good ideas that are feasible in regards to the travel aspect of it. I remember watching a program not to long ago that addressed the issues involved in space travel for long periods of time. I think that its feasible that we would have the technology to be able to travel to mars safely within the next 10 years. Living there is another issue altogether. But I like the direction that we are headed in trying to get there.
Guest Furball
When i was a kid, i was told that there would be flying cars by the time i was an adult. Obviously it never happened. To answer your question, no i do not believe we will be on mars in the next 10 years. -sorry
Guest Furball
There is no way i could handle that long of a flight through space without probably getting claustrophobic, and wanting to get off. There is no way i could handle a 7 month trip through space. When i was a kid my family and i used to travel something like 12-14 hours to a camp site and i had trouble traveling for that amount of time. -no way
mymistake
The gravity difference might make living there impossible unless we can find a way to compensate. I expect humans will be living in rotating cylinders in space before we can learn to live on Mars.

Castiel233
What I have read and watched over the past few months indicates a big, big no.......... Where to begin, other than the seven months being exposed to radiation 1- Low gravity, who knows what it will do and what kind of damage to the settlers bodies 2- Lack of genetic diversity, human societies need a base line of around 10.000 people to ensure such genetic diversity and that is a low number (a more favourable number is 80.000) how on earth are we going to transport thousands of people through space 3- Being self supportive. Humans cannot even live at the poles on Earth without being supported via drops and deliveries. If we cannot do it at "home" I can't see how we can do it "away". 4- What ever tech they take, no matter how good it is, if it breaks they are fucked. If a machine to produce oxygen trips out and it explodes, they are doomed, doomed 5-Costs, believed to run into billions and billions of dollars. As a point of comparison, the ISS is estimated to have cost around 150 billion dollars and that can be seen by the naked eye from Earth, that's how close it is. MIT has done a study which indicates that even if they get there, they will start dying after 68 days
