On Work.........

I hate the BS of work, hate it. You go for an interview and you are sold the company, "its a great place to work, once you have completed your training and as long as you work hard we will reward you"

OK, so you knuckle down, become Mr Overtime 2015 and then your pay is frozen, your holiday is calculated wrong (in their favour)....and so on......

I talk to people, I love hearing work related stories.........yet they are nearly all negative.......why is the culture at work so poor......I suspect its greed at the top.......but who really knows.........

We are just cogs in the wheel… expendable resources. There is no interest or care that we are human beings, with lives and needs.  I'm SO done working for others. It's not WORK I don't like… it's the utter inhumanity of most employers. They talk a good game but when it comes right down to it you are a line in the accounting books, that's it.

I'm just working part time right now just to get my own business off the ground, give me a bit of a float until I have enough clients to support the business and my family, then it's bye bye.

I'm too old to keep taking shit.  :D

I totally agree. When in work  I just do the basic now, knowing I am a meat bag in the employers eyes, being used to generate profits for those at the top. My days of working late and "going the extra mile" are long gone.

They tell you that working overtime will get you ahead so you will work more. It doesn't really make you look better. Maybe if you have a certain position or certain type of job, but where I work it doesn't really mean anything. And in certain jobs you're just kidding yourself if you think anybody will notice you. You get ahead by making friends with whoever has the most influence at your company. You don't really need to be very skilled or productive. Just being "not incompetant" is enough as long as the influencial people like you.

I feel like our modern work culture has a lot of leftovers from lords and serfs, or masters and slaves type of societies. Yes, we have it better than those days but there are still remnants.

I feel like sometimes employers seek out college graduates not for their academic accomplishments, but because they know they are less likely to quit. The recent college grad typically has a mountain of debt they can't get out of and is not likely to stand up for themselves at risk of losing their income. This perpetual debt system of our modern consumer culture is great for employers because they can treat employees like crap and get away with it.
