Guest Furball
I am so sick of hearing people say things like, "god has blessed me", "the lord looked down upon me and blessed me with...." I hear athletes giving god the thanks for all the wonderful crap they get and have accomplished. Actors and musicians as well, like on the red carpets or at the podiums thanking god for giving them the dream life while making it sound like the rest of us are cast to the side like god's unwanted dirt rags. I heard those duggar family nuts saying these same things over and over and over when i was watching just a few snippets of it. Every few seconds they would say something like, "the lord saw fit to bless us with all this or that" making it sound like the rest of us are left out of their god's smiling favors. So because i don't have all the shit they have or the dream life they get, that means that their god hates me? When they say things like that, they are not aware of the fact that they are proving their own bible wrong when it says that god is "not a respecter of persons." Apparently he is if they are getting the dream life and all the "blessings" that come with it, and yet i, nor many others don't get jack shit. I realise that all of this doesn't matter because it is all fake nonsense. I am just ranting and sick of hearing people giving god all the credit/thanks for their dream life, like they are the lucky ones and the rest of us aren't. -grouchy
Burny
This was one of my biggest gripes with evangelical xtianity. Only rich, happy people can be so naive as to think that God is "good" and gives people "good stuff" that they pray for! Here's a vent that I had a while ago about Calvinists and how they pray and get "answers" to prove their faith is meaningful; 1. I pray for what I want in the first place (i.e. new car, health, food, happiness...) 2. I work hard to ensure that I get what I asked for in point "1". 3. I usually get what I work hard for (because I'm living in a rich country with a double income...), therefore God must exist and he must love me! Barf. violetbutterfly
So because i don't have all the shit they have or the dream life they get, that means that their god hates me? No, it means God LOVES you MORE because he is giving you an opportunity to suffer, just like Jesus did. You should be grateful for this glorious opportunity to be closer to God. You are chosen! I was one of those people who bought into the whole thing. "What if you woke up tomorrow with only the things you thanked God for today?" I used to spend an hour at night praying thank yous to.......nobody.
Lucy
I remember a prayer by Bart on the Simpsons, "We paid for all this food ourselves, so thanks for nothing!" Doesn't the New Testament tell us we should want to be poor? Give away our possessions and go preaching? I never understood why the Kingdom of Heaven is made of gold and jewels but we're not supposed to want those things. Spend you whole life denying yourself wordly material goods so you can build up mansions in heaven. I was one of those people who bought into the whole thing. "What if you woke up tomorrow with only the things you thanked God for today?" I used to spend an hour at night praying thank yous to.......nobody. Did you actually list each thing you wanted to thank god for? That sounds like it could get a little OCD. It could also cause you to think if something broke or went missing it's because you weren't sincere enough in the thanks.
francesco
well prospoerity gospel strike again they only want to see the good stuff and ignore the part where Job said thank you to god even though all of his wealth and children were taken challenge to them: can they say thank god if their goals are not happening or the opposites happens?
