Passion Of The Christ

I made a definitive decision NOT to go see this movie and have still refused to even rent it. I'm curious, but I hate Xianity so much right now I just don't want to give a thin red cent to their cause If I can help it.

How many of you have actually seen it and is it worth the two hours and change to view? Should I bother? Or should I continue my boycott of all things Xian?

Oh damn...I DID take my kids to see Narnia...

I haven't seen it either, I heard as a horror flick it was bloodier and more violent than the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, so if you like those kinds of movies it might be good. Maybe Mel will make a sequel: "Passion II: Revenge of Jesus" and i'll see both movies together...

I haven't seen it either. I don't think I ever will.

I'm an atheist but I did go and see it. I hated it, it was just 2 hrs of watching some guy tortured to death in some of the most gory scenes I've ever had the mis-fortune of seeing.

Hes beaten, whipped with a barbed multi-headed flail, tortured, made to carry the cross, then has his arm dislocated to fit the nail holes and hammered into place. Finally stabbed and eventually dies.

Of course everyone knows the story start to finish, so theres no twists or surprises. I definately think Mel took the torture too far, if a guy had suffered what they showed there was no way that he could have walked to the mount, let alone drag a cross with him. Without medical attention he would not have survived the whipping shown.

If you haven't seen it don't bother.

Narnia != Christian.

I have not seen The Passion of the Christ, nor will I. It simply amazes me that any compassionate human could be warped to the point where they could see torture and a crucifixion as anything but a snuff-film.

I have Christian friends that have told me that the message in this film is “so powerful.” I suppose they see a completely different message than I do. They see someone sacrificing themselves for a greater good, and I just go one step back and wonder what kind of god would require such a thing?

My mother saw it, was disgusted, and left halfway. She was bored too.

The only intresting thing in the movie is that they speak the original languages of the age.

Saw it. Wasn't that bad of a movie, then again I have seen someone cut open in front of me (yay sitting in on surgery.) The latin is second rate, the Aramaic and the scene with the "high table and chairs" was actually a nice touch (and a bit apochryphal) and most of the movie was beating the living piss out of jesus.

Oh, and I kind of liked the imagery used for satan. At least a bit unique. It was interesting to hear the sharp intakes of breath in the theater when I was watching it, early on, in the scourging scene. My only thought, however, was "lightweights."

Not bad. Not the best. I'm sure you could find a torrent for it if you really wanted.

Edit: What I mean by second-rate Latin, is that they are using church Latin, not the dialect that would have been spoken at the time. It was probably taken straight from the Vulgate. Can't comment on the Aramaic

There was a time that I thought about seeing it, but it is the same old song and dance that we all know soooooooooooooo well.

What puzzled me about the whole thing was that the christians were taking little kids to go see this film, (rated R mind you) yet they condemn anything that is over rated G for kids to see???? WTF is the difference???? Oh yeah, from what I have heard about it, I am sure that this film is enough to give kids nightmares for years....more than Freddie or Jason could ever do!!! But, oh yes, it is for GOD? To me, it does not show the love god had for us, only the pitiful way he tortured his OWN son, we are just "adopted", can you imagine????

I saw Return of the King again with my mum in protest(I saw it before with my father). The theater we saw it in had quite a few others doing much the same. :-D

Maochistic gay snuff porn just doesn't appeal to me, savvy?

HI ALL

Hi

I saw just the other day where "The Passion of the Christ" will be aired on Showtime next month. I have no plans to watch it now that is on TV. I have always been very sensitive when it comes to violence. I find it so ironic that they will be airing this movie on the same channel that carries "Penn and Teller Bullshit" and "The L Word". Gawd this is way to funny. I think it would be so great if they would aired the movie, and afterwards let Penn and Teller do a commentary :lmao:

Oh, you mean Jesus Chainsaw Massacre?

I liked the blood-n-guts theme they had going; thats how I like my gore flicks. I got turned on when Jesus Fucking Vorhees killed the snake in the garden and blew the wad when the blood started sprayin.

Kill em all, KILL KILL KILL MOTHERFUCKERZ AND GIMME A DOUBLE-QUARTER POUNDER TURBOSIZE TO GO ARRRGH!#@%*

Yes, Aragorn makes a better king than Jesus. LOTR makes a much better Bible than the Xian Book O' Lies (I know if I have kids they will get Tolkien stories at night), and ROTK was doubtlessly a much better film than the Passion, though I never saw the Passion. I used to want to, but everytime I was ready to see it, *poof*, out of the theaters. Lucky coincidence, perhaps; I was at a ripe moment for some hardcore Xian propaganda to keep me in the cult I was on the verge of leaving. Oh well, now I'll likely never see it; there are better movies out there.

Well I will admit that I saw the movie prior to my deconversion and I also purchased it prior to my deconversion. I watched it after I purchased it and I would have to say that it is defiantly a glorified snuff film, it is completely disgusting and wrong. I mean honestly these Xtians are obsessed with blood and death and torture, I mean not only the supposed crucifixion of Jesus but the Crusades and the inquisition and much more this is a belief structure rooted in torture violence and gore. Bottom line it’s a death cult.

The ironic thing is, the same people that flocked to The Passion are the same ones who protest violence in the media.

Yes, but you miss the point. Violence is completely acceptable when it's in religion. If its violence for yourself, well that's bad. But violence from God to sinners or for God from you to sinners, well that's a badge of righteousness. This film is all about understanding the violence needed to please God with merciless shedding of blood. God couldn't forgive us without a river of it on his altar. Thanks Mel, for enlightening us to the way to know God.

One thing that pissed me off when that movie was in theatres, was that it was almost like a required sacrament for Christians.

My parents went, and they NEVER go see movies, for one, because they have to drive out of town to do so! (My folks live in a small town with no cinema). Plus, my mom hates gorey movies.

But, they just HAD to see this, because they're Christians, and Christians should watch this.

They still don't know of my deconversion, and at that time, I recall them seeming disappointed that I wouldn't go watch it, because all the Christians were seeing it.

I said "I don't like blood and guts movies." And they said, "This is different, this is what really happened to Jesus blah blah."

Actually, I do think the violence in the movie would bother me, not because it's the story of Christ's crucifixion. But because lots of people were crucified, and that freaks me right out. Yuck yuck yuck.

I've seen the Passion on dvd. I've seen worse, and IMO there's no reason to watch it, unless of course you're into people getting beaten to a pulp. Poor wittle Jesus gets a ghetto brawls beating and dies for the sins of man and that's it. I was left thinking "whoopdy-fucking-do," just like with so many other movies nowadays. And the violence is tame compared to some of the shit I've seen recently. I guess you have to be a True Believer to grasp the point of the passion, because I sure didn't get it.

I watched that movie thinking of all the shit they didn't do. One of the books in my library is The Book of Execution: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/074724581...glance&n=283155

There are a lot of creative ways to make someone's death horrible, slow, and gruesome. There are methods described in this book that make the crucifixion look like a birthday party (no joke). And these were usually methods that were approved of by the judiciary bodies where they took place.

So since there are people in history who HAVE suffered GREATER than the supposed son O' god.......how can it be that the suffering Jesus endured was sufficient to wash all the sins of humanity present and future? Mere mortals have endured worse!

Yeah that movie. Beat the fuck out of Jesus and bring the babies to the theatre. Can't stand the sight, well then it's simple YOU'RE NOT A TRUE CHRISTIAN. I think I watched about 20 minutes of the movie, and then walked away from the TV. Watching that shit was ruining a perfectly good vicodin buzz.

Naysayers! The Passion was the best movie in history because of one basic principle: humanity is evil and EVERYONE loves to see Jesus get the shit kicked out of him. I don't care who ya are! That's funny right there!

I haven't seen the movie and I don't want to. My fundy ex-sister in law (my ex's sister) took my kids to see it when it first came out, without asking me. My kids came home from a weekend visit traumatised by the movie. I was pissed.

Nation's Children in Danger of Imitating "Passion of the Christ" Violence

Mar 13 2004 by Ryan Moore

The shocking pattern of kids imitating violence they see in TV and movies is all too real, according to concerned parent June French. Ms. French explained the situation to our correspondent:

"Last week I come from the store and what do I see but Eric, my fourteen-year-old, trying to nail his little brother to the wall! When I asked them what the Jiminy Christmas they thought they were doing, Eric told me they saw it in the movies and thought it would be cool to try. Eric kept saying 'I'm a Roman!' and Billy, that's my ten-year-old, he kept running around with his arms out, yelling 'Look, Mommy, I'm The Christ!'

"Well, the first thing I did was call all the other mothers in the neighborhood. Apparently this 'The Christ' is a character in a new movie, and all the kids think he's the coolest. Then I did some research at the library and I was really shocked: it seems millions of people have been killed throughout history because of this 'The Christ,' but Hollywood is still allowed to make a movie glorifying him!

"We knew what we had to do: the other mothers and I formed an action group. We started writing letters to those big-shot Hollywood executives, to tell them they can't make a movie about a character who's been the cause of such horrific violence and expect decent God-fearing folks to stand for it. And then, we're going to organize a series of protests to get them to ban this horrible movie before it harms any more children.

"But real education has to start at home. So I sat Eric and Billy down and explained to them that movies are just stories - and if you try to live your life based on made-up stories, you're bound to end up in trouble. And if they have to look up to a hero from the movies, why not the Terminator, or that nice Rambo? He's only killed a few hundred people - it's pretty tame stuff by comparison."

:lmao:
