Goodbye Jesus

My Final Letter

From the stars and heavens above,
I found upon my own eyes,
A slender beauty, a lovely white dove,
With all the gentle aura, so kind, so very wise.

You came into my life so sudden and quick,
Burning your way into my path, like a candle on a short wick.
But that moment showed me I was so close to the ledge,
And to you, my darling angel, my life do I pledge.

You saved me from a fate so worse than death,
Being by my side, even when I had nothing left,
Your love outpouring, so kind and so wise,
It was tough to watch, and so it dies.

You say you wish for a good man to grace your life,
to be with you through the good, through the strife.
But my fallen angel, if only you would open your eyes,
You would see that you had this, thinking otherwise is nothing but lies.

I know you are thinking I shouldn't still love you,
But some things are tough to let go, let life give its due.
I know I left too much mess and chaos to come back again,
But it was finally you who decided to leave it all behind, just around that bend.

I will go down with my own sin,
But I will never claim to have the win,
Because in the end, what may be will be,
And it was you, who walked away from me.

I won't hold my hands up and surrender on this,
No, not now - not even in this tormented bliss,
I will go down with my sins,
And swim away by virtue by my own fins.

You messed up, I hope you accept this so,
The one I called my darling angel, for so long and lo,
Behold now, the torn wings of the one who saved me,
How the mighty have fallen, so it must be.

Maybe someday you'll regret this decision, and maybe you won't
But never let it be said that I didn't do my part, just don't.
I was there when you needed me to be,
And this is the thanks you gave to me.

You walked away, you left it all behind.
It is a decision you must now live with, and maybe in due time,
You'll realize the damage you caused, the chaos you had sewn,
In the void of a fragile heart, one that was on loan.

Good luck in whatever it is you have planned now,
I won't look back anymore, I'm tired of looking down.
Don't come crawling back when you need the support in your mind,
That ship has sailed, do not expect me to be kind.

Just a poem I had started on the day my ex broke it off with me after cheating on me for a month (I later found out). I shelved it for a long time, then decided to finish it. From love to contempt to dismissal. Closure for the situation, and looking forward while I thank her for the push to get myself into better shape.

I do like how the tone changes, and by the end you've moved on with your own life.  As you said, closure.

Thank you for sharing!

Thanks amateur, it definitely helped me come to grips with it and move forward. Still have lapses where I think about her, but then I remember how she used me and threw me away once I had fixed her problems.

Live and learn.  Always painful.  And you'll always remember, but that's good because you did learn something from it.  Best of luck to you and your future relationships!

Heart-breakingly and wonderfully written to describe a relationship that has failed due to neglect and lies. I think most could relate to this at least once in their lives. The person who hasn't felt this heartbreak is a very lucky one indeed. Hard to let go hon but  it will be worth it. Someone is out there waiting for  someone like you. I am so glad to hear that you are ready to start fresh. Thanks for sharing this. Best wishes for your future!
