Goodbye Jesus

Overcoming Anxious Self

I'm sharing this free form poem with those who may be experiencing anxiety during this holiday season. These are thoughts I penned in my journal when I was walking that lonely road.

Go with the feeling

Don't resist, feel it fully

That dull, heavy ache in my chest cavity

It has my heart in a vice grip

The cousin of fear

Dividing me rather than making me whole

I am besides myself with loneliness

Like a reluctant hiker burdened with a leaden backpack

filled with anxious thoughts

It's a lonely road that all of us must traverse

at some juncture or another in our lives

My tormentor is hungry and demanding

It wants to be fed

If I give in to its demands, it will flourish

But I can't ignore it for it will scream louder

I will not allow it to destroy my essence

I will not give in to the beast

Because it's only its shadow that looms

In itself, it is small

I shine my true, powerful light

to obliterate the shadow

I breathe calmly

And I am safe

As I THINK I am well, therefore I AM well.
