Ex-Machina (Spoiler Alert)

Recommended Posts

Just saw this 2 nights ago. I enjoyed it, though it was a bit of a funnel to the ending (i.e., kind of expected). There ARE spoilers in here, so don't read if you haven't seen it. I don't know how to hide text.

I wondered why she had a sense of self preservation. That seems to be a "given" by most AI stories I've seen since the 90s, but since she wasn't organic, unless that was programmed into her why would she have it? She was able to use her sexuality to manipulate, but wasn't driven by it like an organic being, and apparently wasn't programmed that way. She also lacked compassion, but either that was not programmed, or she still saw him as a threat and her own survival overrode that.

But overall, the concept of a tech genius with unlimited funding deciding to pursue new approaches in tech was interesting. Not sure anyone could begin to approach what he did without several kinds of fabs helping him with part production.

PLEASE EXCUSE THE ANNOYING COMMERCIAL BREAKS IN THE CONVERSATION:

As with everything these days, the cost of keeping the Ex-C forum up and running has been rising. Inflation? In part, but the primary reason is this: As participation in the forums grows, costs increase. The Ex-C forums will remain free of charge to everyone, but if you believe this little corner of the Internet provides value to you or others, and you feel inclined to help keep us online, please consider making a one-time donation or becoming a regular contributor. Contribution options appear under the "Upgrade" link above, and can be accessed by clicking here.

Oh, and as an incentive (no, you won't be given any bogus promises of eternal bliss), if you do become a regular contributor by signing up for any monthly or yearly patron package, this annoying ADVO will disappear.

And now, back to the regularly scheduled conversation...

I really liked the movie, but the ending wasn't surprising in the slightest.
