Australians Have Invented A Great New Cuss Word

Recommended Posts

Certainly not a new word. I would say it has been around for about 50 years.

Yeah, I've seen that one around for decades at least. My gut tells me it originated in Scotland. It just feels Scottish.

^^ Yeah, it's actually therapeutic, especially when in the midst of a clusterfuck.  This thread might be good reference material.

THANKS everyone for expanding my vocabulary. I'll add these to my list of necessary words. I have a workshop that I enjoy spending time in and sometimes I need to talk to my tools or the parts I'm working on. My wife calls it "Navy language." As Mark Twain once wrote, "There ought to be a room in every house to swear in. It's dangerous to have to repress an emotion like that." Good idea although I don't confine myself to any specific location.

Here are a few more from this genius:

"My swearing doesn't mean any more to me than your sermons do to you."
- comment made to Rev. Joe Twichell, quoted in Mark Twain and Hawaii, by Walter Francis Frear

"When it comes down to pure ornamental cursing, the native American is gifted above the sons of men."
- Roughing It

"Under certain circumstances, urgent circumstances, desperate circumstances, profanity provides a relief denied even to prayer."
- Mark Twain, a Biography [Of course, we on Ex-C don't pray, but the idea is good nevertheless, and note that Twain was an atheist.]
