Goodbye Jesus

This is a FB discussion between me, Steve, and my son-in-law, Jason.  Started with Jason's quote of Mark 4:11, below.
Some of you skilled debaters, please give me some feedback on how I'm doing so far, and any suggestions....

Jason Starts:

Mark 4:11

And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:

Steve Corley Mark 4:12

That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.

In other words, Jesus did NOT want everyone to be saved. Classic "us" vs, "them."

Compare to 1 Tim 2:3-4

This is good and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Soooooo....which is it?

JASON: Matthew 22:14
For many are called, but few are chosen

Before I go forward.. are you sincerely asking? Also, to clarify.. what do you mean by "everyone"?

 Acts 5:29-31
29Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
30The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.
31Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to ISRAEL, and forgiveness of sins.

Steve the "all men" he's referring to are the Israelites.. there's no contradiction

Steve Corley The verse says "all" men (can only assume exclusive of women).

Mark 16:15

And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Seems pretty inclusive to me. Says nothing in the following verses about using parables, merely that some would believe, and others would not (and there were severe consequences attached to those that wouldn't); you can include me in the latter, if you wish. Now, admittedly, ole Jesus knew nothing about Asia, Europe, South, Central or North America, Australia, New Zealand. Heck, he didn't even know that a mustard seed is NOT the smallest of all seeds.

But I digress. My point is that the verse that you cited implies that somehow some people are better than other people. I recall somewhere in the bible that says something about god so loving the WORLD....ring a bell?

I don't know if you intended to include the Facebook links or if they just happened to include themselves in the copy and paste process, but if you didn't mean for them to be there, then you may want to edit your post.

Anyway, it looks like a decent start, although such debates with believing relatives can often cause unforeseen problems in the relationship. Good luck.

Okay, I removed the link to Jason's FB page, left mine in, no a big deal if anyone wants to see my, lame ass, FB page.  LOL

Thanks for the feedback.
