Autumn2909 Posted April 23, 2017 Posted April 23, 2017 I'm visiting a friend in the capital. We were very good friends at University and still hang out every 6 months or so. We we were also very good friends because of Christian Union and Church during our Uni years. Anyway, I'm staying with her this weekend, and she asked me to come to her church. She doesn't know about the extent of my drconversion, but she knows I'm much less engaged in organised religion than I used to be. She's an intelligent person so i think she knows me and Church aren't the greatest of friends these days. It is a difficult thing for me to talk about with people as my deconversjkn has been a very painful and lonely experience. Any way, she goes to a well known international "chain" church in the Capital which is famous for its high energy worship, stage show experience. i have anxiety, particularly sensory and she understood I may struggle with noise/large amounts of people, and wouldn't be upset if I went and sat out in the foyer for a break. Which is where I am at the moment.... I have at least another hour of the God-show to sit through.... it is strange being an outsider in an environment I used to love being wrapped up into. I have gleaned that - your music is super holy if you sing "whoa" an indeterminate number of times. - God will give you a great job in the developed world ( but not cure starvation and disease in poor countries) - turning up the base and making everyone's ears ring only enhances the super holiness of your worship concert. -pulling faces like a constipated goat whilst whispering "Jesus" during prayer means you are like super holy. -Jesus loves hipster beards. -to be continued....... 5

Ellinas Posted April 23, 2017 Posted April 23, 2017 I also went to church today; the result of being married to a believer. My thoughts were no different than they have been for some time: I'm very glad that I have the capacity to fall asleep in a chair. 4
