I had missed this new installment of fundie fantasizing:

One of the fall outs from the mythicist position and introducing astrotheology into arguments AGAINST christians, has caused some of these idiots to stop denying that it exists, and instead trying to embrace it while trying to make their own sense of it. The above is an example of how absolutely stupid some of these preachers are and how hard they're trying to own biblical astrotheology and make it work to their advantage in some way.

In the spirit of Herald Camping, David Meade pushes his rapture date further back: http://www.newsweek.com/doomsday-conspiracy-theory-david-meade-apocalypse-october-670253

Writing on his website, Meade clarified his belief that the 23rd is the date of a “historical event” in the skies that would signal the oncoming rapture. Doomsday itself, he says, will begin on October 15.

Well isn't that special?

The fucking idiots, while trying to own astrotheology in the bible, are shooting themselves in the foot left and right. Talk about digging a deeper hole for themselves as they go along. The bottom line, the bible talking about astrological constellations in such books as Revelation doesn't help their literalist causes. It works together with other information to lay bare biblical literalism and has absolutely nothing to do with a literal Jesus, a literal rapture (which has always been unbiblical anyways), nor a literal end of time.

The more these guys keep trying to date set and hype the end of the world according the bible, I'd expect the more they'll loose touch with society and ultimately bring closer an end to christian thinking altogether.

A literal rapture is unbiblical? Sorry if I'm asking this, I grew up in a church that taught that it would literally wisk people up into the air.

FYI on the rapture doctrine as an unbiblical doctrine and why it's not universally accepted among all christians:

I've often referred to it as, "The Secret C-rapture."

Failed predictions[edit]

Some notable predictions of the date of the second Coming of Jesus include the following:

  • 1844: William Miller predicted that Christ would return between March 21, 1843 and March 21, 1844, then revised his prediction, claiming to have miscalculated the Bible, to October 22, 1844. The realization that the predictions were incorrect resulted in the Great Disappointment. Miller's theology gave rise to the Advent movement. The Baha'isbelieve that Christ did return as Miller predicted in 1844, with the advent of the Báb, and numerous Miller-like prophetic predictions from many religions are given in William Sears' book, Thief in The Night.[83][non-primary source needed]
  • 1914,[84] 1918,[85] and 1925:[86] Various dates predicted for the Second Coming of Jesus by the Jehovah's Witnesses.

Some notable predictions of the date of the rapture include the following:

  • 1978: Chuck Smith predicted that Jesus would probably return by 1981.[87]
  • 1988: Edgar C. Whisenant published a book called "88 Reasons Why the Rapture Will Be in 1988".[88]
  • 1994: Radio evangelist Harold Camping predicted September 6, 1994.[89]
  • 2011: Harold Camping's revised prediction had May 21, 2011 as the date of the rapture.[90][91] After this prediction proved inaccurate, he claimed that a non-visible "spiritual judgement" had taken place, and that the physical rapture would occur on October 21, 2011. The physical rapture prediction also proved inaccurate.[92]

Wouldn't you know it?  That Thursday, the 12th, is the celebration of the Torah.  It marks the end of the reading of the Torah.  There's the weekend and then it would start all over again.  The whole cyclical thing.

But...not this time!  It's all over folks.  Don't pack your bags we're all going to heaven!  Nekked (except for modesty fig leaves that will be magically provided upon Rapture).

Don't worry after this fails, if the guy doesn't give up, I foresee that he'll predict a date to be in Chanukah (or however it's spelled).  That's always a popular time to end the world too.

We have until May 2018, which is the anniversary of Israel becoming a state, for guesses prophecies to keep coming for the end of the world so don't give up hope just yet.  There's a lot of things in the Jewish calendar that people can choose from although they're just not so "end of time-y"...still good stuff though.  Passover is coming.  Jesus is tied to that.  We could die then.  Second coming and all.

And if it doesn't work out this time just remember that the world loves to end the year before the anniversary of Israel becoming a state (usually on the tenth years but sometime the fivers...never the others...that would be stupid and god doesn't do stupid things like that).  So hold the date for maybe 2022 or more likely 2027 if we don't die this go around.
