Christians

Do you think that the reason there are so many competing doctrines among the different churches today, is due to the fact that the bible is saying different things about the same subjects.

Take the doctrine of "Rapture"

Doesn't the bible reflect the idea of rapture, by saying we will meet him in the air and then say the complete opposite at the same time.

What about "Sleep death"

Doesn't the bible have the idea that the dead sleep until resurrection, and also the idea that after they die they join Jesus today.

Maybe most Christians are not reading the bible wrong, maybe it's the bible that has its doctrines misaligned.

It's complicated. Mysterious. If it made sense we wouldn't need faith to believe it. :P

It's because the bible is written like a horoscope. It doesn't commit specifically to anything leaving interpretation open to the reader.

Careful now, End.

If you say that the Bible does commit itself to specifics, then to be consistent, you will have to admit that the Bible does specifically say that God cursed everyone before they were born.

No cherry picking, please!

You are correct.  The Bible is filled with contradictions & inconsistencies because Judaism, Orthodoxy, & Gnostic's were all fighting for supremacy. The Bible reflects all of these competing theologies beliefs.

It's strange how many Christians put the blame for peoples interpretation of bible passages on the reader, not the book itself.

It scares me to see Christians verbally bash the shit out of each other, and never having resolution of doctrine.

They never will when the bible is the source of their grievances.
